“A little gem in Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2012

The Boutique Hotel View is a small hotel with a big heart. The staff, Natallie the owner, Benny and Benito are the friendliest and most helpful that I have met in my travels around the world. Luggage gets carried up and down the staircase by staff who actually know how to smile and advice on where to go, directions etc, are given freely. Natallie makes breakfast pancakes and omellettes to order, as well as providing a good selection of cereals, fresh fruit, breads, cheeses, cold meats and fruit juice.
Our comfortable room was a good size for a large city and the views of the canal from the rooms at the front of the hotel are spectacular.
The location is great, right next to Leidseplein. The area has plenty of nightlife and restaurants to suit most tastes, a theatre for the more intellectual and live music in the square for the rest of us.
This hotel is an Amsterdam gem.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have great views but are slightly noisier than those at the rear. We slept in bo...

Where to begin? Arrived around midnight. Night clerk didn't warn me there was a 6" step down into the room! Since the lights only work with the key in the slot in the room, good luck avoiding that nasty surprise. Someone older carrying luggage could hurt themselves. Light bulb next to the bed was burned out. TV didn't work--took the second remote to get it going. No waste basket in the room--bathroom only. Ant crossed the desk. Safe on floor of closet requires kneeling with head on floor to operate. 1/2" tear in the leather couch cushion. Had to complain to get the radio turned down at reception. I could recognize the songs in the room. Street noise clearly audible. No hot water day 2, and the room was never made up that day either.

We booked a small double room with canal view direct through their website, for a couple of nights in March. Service was friendly and helpful, had the cooked breakfast the first morning which was tasty and great value. Decor in the communal areas and our room was modern and pleasant. There was some decoration going on while we were there but the painters were considerate and not disruptive. Room was clean and comfortable, with ample storage but perhaps could do with more hanging space rather than shelves. Bathroom was very clean spacious & everything worked well.

Due to the age, size & construction of the building soundproofing isn't great. There were occasional disturbances from outdoor traffic noise across the canal (we were on the top floor), and some other guests who could have been a bit quieter but I'm a light sleeper so this won't necessarily be an issue for all. The stairs are quite steep, which wasn't a problem for us, but could be for some. The staff were keen to carry our luggage up however.

The hotel is in a great location with many attractions, such as the Van Gogh museum only a short walk away. Even the city centre is not too much further and the walk is a very pleasant one, through lovely parts of the city. There are plenty of food and drink options close by, and the bus to the airport stops a couple of minutes walk away (outside the Cafe Americain on Leidseplein, rather than on Marnixstraat as someone told us).

There appeared to be a couple of cats in residence, which didn't bother us but might be a problem for some. It's not mentioned on the website but some other reviews mention it so maybe they are only there occasionally. Lookout for them on the stairs though, wouldn't want to step on them.

Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: If you're going for a small double room, the canal view rooms have a bit more space.

I travelled with a group of ladies and stayed for one night at this hotel. We choose this location as we didn't want to be too far out of the night life and we didn't want to be wandering around a city which was unknown to us at night. We arrived early and took our suitcases straight to the hotel and these were immediately put in a room for us. The welcome was very friendly (considering we arrived when breakfast was being served and the staff were very busy). I had a canal view on the top floor, the room was spotless, this is by far the best 2 star hotel I have ever stayed in and I really don't understand why the rating isn't higher. The location is brilliant and it is as the website says a 2 minute walk from the bus stop. The staff are very friendly and couldn't do enough for us - it really is a lovely place to stay. One of our party was slightly the worse for wear the next day and a room was offered to her for the day (free of charge) not many place (if any) would offer that. Considering it is so close to Leidspleine it is very quiet around this neighbour hood and is in a lovely setting of the canal. Breakfast was plentiful and very tasty, the pancakes are a must if you stay here. I have already tried to re-book this hotel for later in the year but unfortunately it is book. My advice would be book early and stay as long as you can

Although we did not stay in this hotel, my husband and I were lucky enough to be given great help by a very kind lady on reception in this hotel called Dragana after we had checked out of the terrible Hotel de Paris. Although the Boutique Hotel View itself was booked out, Dragana let us use the hotels internet facilities and made a lot of calls for us to help us find alternative accommodation. She did not have to help us but we really appreciated it, and she did help us find an alternative place to stay.
The Boutique Hotel View looks like a modern clean hotel, and there were many happy guests to be seen there. We would definitely recommend it!!

We stayed at the Boutique Hotel View Hotel in early April 2012 and it was a wonderful experience. The room we stayed in had a beautiful view of the canal and the staff were so friendly and outgoing. The location was great and the breakfast was perfect. A little gem in Amsterdam.

I stayed at Boutique Hotel View for four nights in early May. The location was great - less than five minute walk from tram and bus stops. Centrally located but on a quiet, canal-side street. Natalie and the rest of the staff were so friendly and helpful, and they made delicious pancakes and omelets for breakfast!

The stairs are steep (a great workout!) so don't bring a huge suitcase. Natalie was nice enough to lug my suitcase up to my room for me. I had room 304 - at the very top of the hotel - which provided wonderful views of the canal and city. Butler, one of the hotel's cats, even paid me a visit. The room itself is well laid-out and perfect for a single traveler or for a couple that loves cozy spaces. The bathroom - this is Europe, so keep in mind everything has to be fitted into existing spaces - is genius. It's a large wetroom with a shower curtain separating the shower area from the sink and toilet. Very efficient design and use of a limited space. Also, nice amount of shelf space for toiletries.

I really enjoyed my stay here and will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: As mentioned in the review, stairs are steep - don't bring a huge, heavy suitcase.
