After an hour flight from Newcastle we took the train to Centraal Station and took the advice of the 1 or 17 tram to Surinameplein which took about an hour in total once we took the train and tram (including waiting times) so it was a bit of a pain especially as it was busy as hell over this period.
I keep seeing the hotel responding saying its 10 minutes tram to the centre but its more like 20 to places like Dam but it is completely painless. The only gripe I had about the location was at NYE when we decided to go to Dam Square and it cost us 60 euros in a taxi back. The taxis on NYE charge what they want but thankfully due to the amount of money saved by staying outside the centre in this beautiful hotel the money wasn't an issue. Other than that I would happily sacrifice a bit of travelling time to stay here as there is nothing in the centre that comes close that would have cost us 400 Euros more for 3 nights.
On to the hotel review......Check in was painless and we had a lovely member of staff check s in. A trainee girl who was very knowledgeable and friendly. Helped us out a lot and gave us a lot of info. The room was beautiful with everything we needed and was outfitted to a very high standard. I would compare it to Malmaison in the UK.
We checked the pool area out and it was a little cold but refreshing and a very nice area. We also booked massages but the guy who was manning the spa at the time seemed to be a little sick and he didn't seem to be able to concentrate on the job so it was a little difficult.
We didn't eat in the hotel but on NYE we had pre drinks in the Skyy Bar and it was perfect. Waiting staff were brilliant and the bar itself is like something you would see in Mayfair, London.
Finally, a review of check out. The only time the stay had been blighted. The male member of staff at the desk was not friendly at all and he told me how much my bill was at checkout (which was 100 euros more than it should have been) and when I questioned it he looked at me like I was a peasant! I pointed out what was wrong and he agreed (no apology) and then I settled my bill. Fort someone who is trying to rip you off for a 100 euros he seemed to think I was in the wrong for questioning it! Not the first time this has happened in a hotel.
Other than that I couldn't recommend the place highly enough. Just purchase a tram card for the duration of your stay and stick to the 1/17 trams for your stay is the best advice I can give.
