“Quirky hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013 via mobile

Recently stayed at tis hotel for the second time. Really nice hotel. Staff are brilliant and really friendly. There is a 24hr coffee dock and bar in the reception where you can get drinks and food. There is wifi throughout the hotel which is free they also have computers in the lobby with Internet access which are free to use, there is also a printer which is also free to use. The rooms are small and compact. Perfect for a short trip. If staying here id advise you know the person very well as the toilet and shower are both in circular pods in the middle of the room. Everything in room works by pressing different buttons. It's a gadget lovers dream hotel. Only thing I didn't like about the room was lack of storage and not being able the room for fresh air. All in all a nice hotel for a short stay.

I booked two rooms for 4 nights in Amsterdam City in August 2013; one for me & one for my 22 year old son. We both loved the hotel. Small room, but so well laid out it felt bigger than other hotel rooms I've stayed in that had twice the square footage. Extremely clean and I saw the cleaning staff vacuuming not only the floor, but under the mattress as well. The staff were excellent: helpful, friendly and always available if you needed anything. Check in & check out easy, canteen stocked with everything you might want including alcohol, free internet, Apple pc's & printer. The ambiance of the hotel was awesome. Yes, it's outside the city center, but quiet & the tram gets you to the museums in 5 minutes & all the way to the train station and downtown within 15 minutes. I'll probably be traveling through Amsterdam at least once year & I already plan to stay at this hotel every time I'm there.

CitizenM is a hotel as no other I have stayed at. To stand a chance of surviving your stay, you have to be experienced with touch screens: the remote control controls just about evrything: lighting, temperature, sun shade, blinds, and tv. You can find all the instructions on the tv. Do not look for any printed instructions. The comfortable bed is probably large enough for three people, but the room is too small for two. There are 3 clothes hangers and no room to lay out your clothes. The large drawer under the bed, used to store one suitcase, is a nice touch. The toilet is located in a futuristic cylinder with translucent (not transparant) semicirular full length door. The shower is similar in shape, but actually has a transparant door. The shower will only work if these doors are completely shut. Opening them instantly shuts off the water. Sound insulation in the room is excellent. Checking in and out is a computerized affair, but the ever friendly staff is ready to assist you if necessary. Breakfast and others meals are rather basic, but people staying here probably do not need more. Seating is on bar chairs, so you will have to be physically able to climb up.Your room key is used to charge your bill. Wifi in the room was excellent, and there are a number of computers you can use in the lobby.
The hotel is not exactly in the center of town, but is a 5 minute walk from the world trade center and a 10 minute walk from the RAI convention center and from the court house. One of the nicer shopping areas and various trams are also only 5 minutes away.
Recommended for yuppies, business people and congress goers, not for the romantically inclined or the elderly and infirm.

Myself and my fiance stayed here for 3 nights and couldn't fault the hotel itself!

The staff are all friendly and helpful and always smiling!

The rooms are immaculate they are compact but for a bed and a hot shower on a city break they are perfect! Towels and beds are changed every morning which doesn't happen in many hotels. The mood controls are great fun. Our tv decided to mess up a bit on the free movies but it wasnt a big issue for us as we were rarely in the room.

The location of the hotel is good for business purposes but if you are there to experience the buzz of a city centre you have a 15 min tram ride. the first day we were there we thought the nearest tram stop was at station RAI which is a 15 minute walk away through a park. We discovered the tram stop right outside the hotel the next morning. I blame hunger for not noticing it!!

The canteen is quite expensive and has quite a limited selection if your not keen on sushi but it was great dor a coffee and a croissant or a sneaky bar of chocolate!

I would highly reccomend this hotel to couples and groups of friends and anyone on business trips to amsterdam.

The people working there are so friendly, and the design of the place is so cool and funky. The bedroom was so well designed - loved the shower and facilities, and how they fit in. On demand movies all free. I rarely recommend places, but I would definitely recommend this one :0) It is a little outside the centre, but a short tram ride on the number 5 tram can take you anywhere you need to go.

We spent three nights in Citizen M in the south of the city. The hotel is a new budget hotel ideally suited for business or pleasure. From plane to hotel room was 25 mins maximum, the 2.5 euro train fair to Amsterdam Zuid and 10-15 min journey were easy, followed by a 2-5 minute walk from the station to the hotel is ideal. The staff in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are small by usual budget standards but this is a part of the design concept - the huge bed fills the full end of the room by the window and was very comfortable. The shower and toilet are part of the room in glass tubes. We loved the design and ease of use of the rooms facilities, though accept that they are a little tight and lack some easy to use storage. The huge drawer under the bed is ideal for laying clothes and there is a little hanging space. I guess the hotel is set up for short stay (3 night max) business and leisure tourism. We would certainly return. The public transport system in Amsterdam is wonderful and the hotel is 50 yards from the nearest tram stop (Tram 5), making the city centre accessible in only 15-20 mins. Museums can be reached in 10 mins and with a quick change of tram a couple of stops up de Pijp and the Jordaan are easy to reach. We were visiting for my 40th birthday and the hotel made the lovely gesture of leaving a card and offering 2 free cocktails in the bar. Though the rooms were great value the bar and food is a bit pricey but then so is much of Amsterdam. Loved our stay and will return!

Room Tip: All rooms are identical, we stayed on the 5th floor, soundproofing was great.
