“Great for the traveler”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2013

Room is clean and very unique. Beds were very comfortable. Although the rooms are small they offer everything that you need. Self Service chek in and check out is very quick and easy. Staff is extrememly helpful. Great location, within walking distance of the airport and train station. Very quiet rooms, could not hear the plane's.

Room is clean, no stale hotel smell which I abhorred. Staff is friendly and helpful. Although it is not located in the city centre, the tram stop is literally few steps away. Easy to get to the airport too. I particularly like their designs with clever words and funky pictures on the walls and elevators and even on shampoo bottles-- make one smile after a weary trip. I just wish they have hot drinking water in the room and the room temperature can be adjusted to a higher degree (even when turned to 23 degrees, some night still felt cold). Otherwise, our stay has been very good.

In spite of a couple of minor mishaps with the shower knobs and the multifunctional remote control, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this hotel with its outstanding design and young, competent and very friendly staff!

We especially remember Sally, Sue,who made a valuable recommendation for an excellent Peruvian restaurant, and Raymond, who wrote us a touching letter, apologizing for our trouble with the shower and remote.

We are convinced that our next visit to citizenM in London will also be a memorable one.

Room Tip: We hope that they will be able to fix the shower and the remote in Room 121! Free WiFi throughout t...

I stayed in this hotel for 3 days 2 nights. It is a very modern hotel where it allows you to check in with self-service PC at the entrance of the hotel so long you remember your credit card pin.

The photos/posters they put up on the wall are very interesting not limited to sex, violence, jokes, etc; it was an eye opener for me. The hotel lobby area has a few of book rack where they put quite a number of books which you can read to wind down if you can't sleep at night. Mac PCs are also available for you to surf net if you do not have electronic device to access the free wifi. In your room, movie on demand and adult movies are made available to you at no cost. Hahahaha. It would be quite exciting for a newly wed couple or long wed couple to spice up their sex life a little bit.

Talking about the shower "tube", I was told that only until I close the sliding door, else the water wouldn't come out from the shower head. Having said that, it was not that easy, probably it was due to the rubber on the sides of both the sliding door no longer worked well to hold the door together so you will have to try a couple of times. It was also a challenge for me to adjust the water temperature, you need some strength to turn the water knob. Furthermore one thing to take note is that, the room doesnt come with individual air-con but rather a centralized air ventilator so it can be quite warm at first if you need some cool air right away. Lastly, I find the design of the basin is a little small so when I washed my face, water was splashing everywhere on the floor. Apart from that, I think my experience with the hotel was still great.

Quite different from the other hotels. Very interesting and beautiful design of the lobby and the meeting lounge.

The room though is small but acceptable. The bed is comforty and must try the clock alarm system, which has a few types of wake you up sound - nice and fun!

If the room has a hot pot that citizen could boil water in the room at anytime, rather than asking the staffs in the cafe to have a cup of hot water, would be even better.

I enjoy the stay very much and wish you could have one open up in Canada!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013

I stayed four nights in citizenM Amsterdam City, and selected the hotel because of its proximity to the conference venue I was attending, and also because of price. The high-techy citizenM concept is way different from any other hotel I have stayed in, and the first night was a bit of a shock to the system, especially the room design, but by the end of my stay, I fould that I really warmed to the place and liked it a lot. The most positive thing is the staff. They are friendly, helpful, chatty, and happy to help in any way. Check-in and check-out is automatic using computer terminals, but the staff are always around to help. This made my stay much easier and quite enjoyable.

The great things about citizenM:
The staff
Free wifi and movies
Fabulous 24 hour bar/food court with a range of meals and drinks. The Segafredo Americano was one of the best tasting coffees I have had for a while
good selection of breakfast food
Location great for the RAI conference center
Comfortable bed
Enough plugs to electronic equipment
Adequate desk for working
Good lighting control which enables the room to be nice and bright
The common areas of the hotel are comfortable and have a great atmosphere, the breakfast bar, lounges etc, people are always buzzing around, give the place an informal family feel.

The thinks I liked less:
The room temperature can be controlled between 17 and 23 degrees using the room remote control, but frankly, I didnt notice any difference between the temperatures, and some evenings it was quite cold.
The bed is positioned against the window so if you want to look out of the window, you have to crawl across the bed. The big window in the room doesn't open so it's a little claustrophobic.
The bed is very high, so if you want to sit on the bed, you have to perch.
The rain shower requires you to get in and close the doors before the water flows. This means, when you turn on the tap, you get a cold blast before the hot water comes through.

Overall, staying at citizenM was a good experience, and for short stays in Amsterdam, I would be delighted to return.

Location is well out of the city centre, close to Amsterdam Zuid station so easy from Schipol. No.5 tram passes by the door - 15 minutes to Rijksmuseum, 30 minutes to Central Station.
Check in is self service but nobody can work out how to use it so it takes longer than it would going to a desk.
Rooms are clean and trendy but hopelessly impractical. There is nowhere to store clothes or luggage; toilet is behind frosted glass but do you really want to see / hear what your companion is up to? The bed takes up the whole of one end of the room so you would either have to slide out at the bottom or climb over any partner.
Breakfast looked expensive and unimpressive.
There are no supermarkets, pubs, cafes or restaurant close to the hotel.

Room Tip: Any - its a very quiet area
