“BED BUGS!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Stayed at the CitizenM in Amsterdam last week and there were bed bugs in our room. Told staff and they looked a bit shocked but did nothing. Got an email from the manager a few days later apologizing, but no discount or refund was given. They basically did nothing about it. DO NOT STAY HERE.

great hotel, very nice staff, very modern and quirky rooms.
I would look at the rooms first to see if tney are your style with regrds to the pods within the rooms for tiolet and shower which where ok for me staying myself for 2 nights on a business trip.
Breakfadt isnt the best , its a continental style offering but is more than ample to get you started for the day.
Expect to pay about 20 euro on taxis into the centre which take about 15 mins.
Very handy for RAI and Work trade centre.
Free wifi and a great small bar chilling out area down in the lobby.
Would come back for sure.

Room Tip: try and book a garden view room , slightly better then a city view.

The room was tiny but extremely practical. The remote control was amazing feature and the color ambience feature was cool. One of the most cool things was the free international calls in the room (!). The staff was amazing and super helpful. The in room toilet and shower is not suitable for everyone but it is good enough. Food prices at the restaurant/bar is very expensive - they should consider lower them. To sum it all - it was great experience in a very unique and fun hotel.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel in Amsterdam and I have to say it was perfect. Comfortable, fun and the price was excellent. Bed was very comfortable with extra pillows and the little perks of free WiFi and very nice smelling shower gel (one for morning and one for night). If we have a choice when travelling it will be a Citizen M.

Room Tip: Bed was comfortable, room was clean and plenty of very good smelling shower gel available. Free WiFi...

The CitizenM for the most part didn't disappoint and I was very satisfied with the stay. Those seeking a fun, hip, yet not at all pretentious hotel should definitely give the CitizenM a look especially if the peace and quiet of residing a few kms out of the heart of "touristy" amsterdam is appealing.

I was attracted to the hotel in part because the rooms seemed very unique and unlike any other hotel I was accustomed to. Secondly, the price was reasonable for a weekend stay. Lastly, my parents were in town and staying at different hotel near the Rijksmuseum. The transportation from Museumplein to the CitizenM was exceptionally easy by using the 5 tram.

For starts this hotel isn't for everyone. I was a solo traveler with hardly any luggage. Do youself a favor and check out photos of the room before you book. The rooms are very functional, but lack any measure of privacy. Need I say more? For those that anticipate lots of downtime or time in the room for relaxing, I may caution against this choice simply because while the rooms are functional the are not very comfortable or warm by design. A business traveler may be put off by the lack of a real closet for suits for example

However, I really found the service to be spectacular. The kiosk check-in was simple to use for coming and going. There were always friendly but not " too cool hip to be bothered" staff near the kiosks to help guests out. The staff were always very friendly and helpful when it came to extending my stay.

I was really sold by the location. In the past I've stayed on Dam Square and then on the Herengracht Canal near Centraal Station. The CitizenM beats them all in terms of ease of transit. I arrived by train to Centraal Station and the 5 tram literally stops about 50metres from the hotel. Leaving to head by to the airport, I walked all over 5 mins to Zuid station that is in the shadow of the hotel. Little did I realize till I was departing there are many shops that are clustered by the Zuid station and the World Trade Center complex. While, there are not fridges in the rooms there was small grocery store outside the station outside to get cheap provisions. Getting back to Leidesplein as a point of reference is about a 17 min tram ride. Or you can run there if so inclined in about 20-25 mins. Speaking of running and exercise, this hotel does not have a gym but the neighborhood is well setup for runs as there are numerous canals to explore on foot. When it's time to leave town via Schipol airport, the simplicity of catching a train from Amsterdam Zuid to the airport cannot be beat. My guess is that NS trains depart every 3-5 minutes and the transit time to the airport is around 6-7 minutes.

I really liked the tranquil neighborhood the hotel is settled in. After being bombarded by the hordes of people around Leidesplein, Dam Sqaure, and Centraal Station, it was very pleasant to return by tram to the hotel. Being near the action yet removed from the stag weekend induced insanity that often comes with it was fine with me. Dam Square was fun in my 20s, but I've evolved!

The single biggest drawback to this hotel was the abysmal (yet free) wifi service in the hotel. For a brand that is very focused on it's hip, social image, I was astounded that I could barely access my facebook account from my room or even in the common spaces. The connection was just terrible. Sadly, the hotel's own Macs in the lobby were not much better. My parents couldn't even login to their email back in the States because the connection was so terrible. Before I booked I had read other reviews flagging this issue. I sincerely, hope the hotel management fix this issue (or at least implements a service worth paying for) because when guests can't even get the bandwidth to see images on their facebook posts, it makes hard to promote the hotel on social media (amongst many other slightly more pressing issues).

Oh, the beds were really comfortable too. THe sleep was amazing. While I view the electronic control of the blinds and the "so called" mood lighting as a gimmick, my room was silent with no outside (or internal ) noise whatsoever. The shower is really cool too as it employs a rainforest type head.

In summation, I would definitely stay here again. The combination of service excellence combined, pricing, and ease of location make this hotel a winner. While the style of room isn't for everyone, for those wanting to take a bit of risk and push the limits, I would absolutely recommend the hotel. If you are traveling solo, light, and for pleasure the amenities are just what a traveler could need. Plus you'll have some cool photos of the room to share with curious and baffled friends back home .

Went here for my husbands 30th birthday and we loved it! Very trendy hotel. Bit out the way from the hussle and bussle but easy to get to via tram (no5).

We didn't get breakfast at the hotel but there are plenty of places around to get something, we went to a place called Bagels and Beans which was fantastic!

Room was very trendy, glad we are married though....not the most private if needing the loo or a shower (not for new couple who are still impressing) :-)

Loved it all and the mood lighting was great. Shower fab!
