“Gadget heaven with a big bed”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012 via mobile

Really enjoyed our stay here, the rooms are amazing if a bit unusual big tip don't go together if you need privacy for those personal times as the toilet and showers are glass cubicles, as a design freak I loved it but it might not appeal to every one.
The bed is huge a very very comfortable so set an alarm as we over slept a couple of times. The hotel has thought of every thing and make it an excellent place to base yourself for a long weekend in Amsterdam

New hotel, modern, basic and technological. It 's located about 5 km from the center but well connected (100mt from the tram stop number 5 which leads to the central station).
The rooms are small but very comfortable: large cozy bed, shower and toilet inside two colored cylinders, TV, air conditioning, internet wi-fi access, free telephone calls. The guests are generally young and smart. The cost is not very low but the value we found to be adequate to the standards of Amsterdam. Recommended.

I will stay in a Citizen M if there is one in a city I visit. Warning, this is a very modern hotel. The shower and toilet are "pods" within the room. Imagine 2 rolls of paper towels standing right inside a rectangular space. The shower pod is clear glass, the toilet pod is opaque, but both are sealed from floor to ceiling. You better like or know your roommate well. There is a curtain to divide the sleeping area from the pods area, but is is sheer and flimsy. There is a Phillips flatscreen on the wall which is your tv, radio. You can watch free movies, control the lighting and control the window blinds and shades with the remote. There is a nice full sized mirror that swivels to reveal more mirrors and shelves on the other side. There is a free standing sink (a mini pod) that has storage at the bottom for your bathroom stuff and also hides the room garbage can. There is even a desk and desk chair. The king sized bed ran the width of the room which made it cozier, because you are surrounded by two walls and the window on three sides. The bottom of the bed has a large drawer for storage. I am not sure all rooms are laid out this way, but they are probably all the same size and shape (a shipping container?) The lobby and restaurant are fabulously designed. The restaurant is more like a deli case, with food to grab and go or reheat in the microwave available 24/7. There is no fridge in the room, so we bought drinks from the grocery and just asked for glasses of ice at the bar. You could probably get cheaper, better food outside, but if you want convenience or time is of the essence, the food choice was fine, from sushi, to Indian food, to spaghetti Bolognese, to Ben and Gerry ice cream, sodas and chocolate bars. Breakfast could have been better. If you want a more hearty breakfast, take a tram to town and eat there. Grab a coffee from the espresso bar to tide you over 'til you get to town. Or walk to the train station Amsterdam Zuid to get a fast food type of breakfast. The vibe was fun, and new and modern. My teenager enjoyed it. The staff was always warm and friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Amsterdam City location. The #5 tram is just outside the door. In less than 10 minutes your are at Museumplein, and in about 20 minutes, you would be at Central Station. We got on the train at Schiphol, and in exactly 6 minutes, we were getting off at Amsterdam Zuid station (3 euro ticket). The hotel is just a 5 minute walk away. It could not get more convenient! And the best thing is the hotel is sooooo clean. Our room was almost all white, glass and chrome, except for the red desk chair, and the wood platform the bed was on. Oh and there was pink Molly, the Citizen M mascot, very cute and warm touch. I would highly recommend Citizen M to the modern traveller (who gets along really well or loves his/her travelling companion!)

Room Tip: I like my garden view room. It is not a very tall building, 6 stories I think. We were on 4, but the...

My husband and I LOVED this hotel! The price was relatively reasonable, and the design of the rooms was very creative and practical! In typical European fashion, the room was small, but we felt that the design was a very efficient use of space. The technology in the hotel was impressive! Most things in the room were controlled by a remote control -- the color and brightness of the lights, the on/off switch for the lights, the open/close mechanism for the blinds, etc! You could also set an alarm that would turn on the lights and TV when you want to wake up. Very impressive room! We definitely enjoyed it and would love to stay there again. It is within short walking distance of Schipol Airport...you can even roll your luggage cart directly from the airport to the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on the 7th & 8th July for the Madonna concert. My first impression was how trendy it was and how friendly the staff were. The rooms are small, like little pods but very clean and nothing like I've ever experienced before. There is just a curtain separating the bed from the toilet and shower so if you like total privacy and not very familiar with the person you're sharing the room with you're probably better off having a room of your own. The hotel is in a quiet area yet only a ride away from Schipol airport and the city. The bar is also open 24/7 which was a bonus as we arrived back late from the concert so we could get a late drink. The food was also delicious and not too expensive. I would definitely recommend it and would stay here again if I visit Amsterdam.

Stayed here for only one night and had a great experience. The room is all about sleeping and taking a shower. Nothing more. But what do you need more when you're in a city like Amsterdam? Rooms are very clean. The lobby is open, clean, fresh, modern and full of my fav furniture! Check in is easy, the bar & take-a-way food good. Staff was friendly and helpful! I hope CitizenM will open a hotel in all cities I want to visit in the future!
