I will stay in a Citizen M if there is one in a city I visit. Warning, this is a very modern hotel. The shower and toilet are "pods" within the room. Imagine 2 rolls of paper towels standing right inside a rectangular space. The shower pod is clear glass, the toilet pod is opaque, but both are sealed from floor to ceiling. You better like or know your roommate well. There is a curtain to divide the sleeping area from the pods area, but is is sheer and flimsy. There is a Phillips flatscreen on the wall which is your tv, radio. You can watch free movies, control the lighting and control the window blinds and shades with the remote. There is a nice full sized mirror that swivels to reveal more mirrors and shelves on the other side. There is a free standing sink (a mini pod) that has storage at the bottom for your bathroom stuff and also hides the room garbage can. There is even a desk and desk chair. The king sized bed ran the width of the room which made it cozier, because you are surrounded by two walls and the window on three sides. The bottom of the bed has a large drawer for storage. I am not sure all rooms are laid out this way, but they are probably all the same size and shape (a shipping container?) The lobby and restaurant are fabulously designed. The restaurant is more like a deli case, with food to grab and go or reheat in the microwave available 24/7. There is no fridge in the room, so we bought drinks from the grocery and just asked for glasses of ice at the bar. You could probably get cheaper, better food outside, but if you want convenience or time is of the essence, the food choice was fine, from sushi, to Indian food, to spaghetti Bolognese, to Ben and Gerry ice cream, sodas and chocolate bars. Breakfast could have been better. If you want a more hearty breakfast, take a tram to town and eat there. Grab a coffee from the espresso bar to tide you over 'til you get to town. Or walk to the train station Amsterdam Zuid to get a fast food type of breakfast. The vibe was fun, and new and modern. My teenager enjoyed it. The staff was always warm and friendly and helpful. We stayed in the Amsterdam City location. The #5 tram is just outside the door. In less than 10 minutes your are at Museumplein, and in about 20 minutes, you would be at Central Station. We got on the train at Schiphol, and in exactly 6 minutes, we were getting off at Amsterdam Zuid station (3 euro ticket). The hotel is just a 5 minute walk away. It could not get more convenient! And the best thing is the hotel is sooooo clean. Our room was almost all white, glass and chrome, except for the red desk chair, and the wood platform the bed was on. Oh and there was pink Molly, the Citizen M mascot, very cute and warm touch. I would highly recommend Citizen M to the modern traveller (who gets along really well or loves his/her travelling companion!)
