I always shy away from 'hip' hotels. They can be too cool, and too click and unless you are a filmstar, you can end up feeling a bit crap. But that's not what happens at citizen M. I love the rooms - they're all teh same size and layout so you never feel lie someone else is getting a better deal. The bed was so comfortable and the prixe was the same as an average B&B. The lobby was great - it really worked as a place where you could read, work, watch TV or have a drink. And the 'self check in' that is actually manned at all times by efficient and cheery staff is a clever way of making you feel like you're in charge fo your stay - and not the hotel. be warned though - Citizen M are masters at upselling - and before long you'll be ordering cocktails at all hours from the well-wtocked bar/shop/cafe area.

This is a 30 min walk, or 5 mins tram ride from the center of town, but the walk is pretty so you don't feel too out of things.

The best thing about this hotel – and there are many good things – are the fantastic, comfortable, and huge beds. If a hotel is about good service and a comfortable bed then CitizenM ticks all the boxes.

It’s not close to the city, but very easy to get to. The tram takes you into town from directly across the road, and it’s only one stop on the train to Schipol to catch a flight.

The rooms are all fun and high tech, so it won’t be for everyone. The toilet/shower thing in the room is strange, but fun. Free wi-fi and the good coffee from the bar all make this a nice place to stay. Save some money by staying here and spend it on going out in town.

Room Tip: All the rooms are exactly the same, they just look out on different sides of the building.

My wife and I stayed here for 3 days. It was the perfect hotel for us. It is at the first stop on the train from Schipol airport so it is very convenient. The design of it is quite fascinating, with no real front desk, but rather you check in yourself. The rooms are a bit small but they come with a strange set up where the toilet is in this tube in the middle of the room and the shower is in another tube directly across from it. The bed is quite large and there are various settings of mood lighting which change the lighting and colors of the room. There is free wi-fi, free movies and free international phone calls. The mini-cafeteria downstairs is open 24 hours and very convenient. Right outside the hotel is a stop for the 5 Tram that takes you right into Amsterdam center and Centraal Station. It is very convenient. I would highly recommend a stay at thsi hotel or other branches around the world.

Yes, it's trendy! But a bit too much for me...

The toilet is like a glass cabin in the room that actually doesn't prevent your patner to listen, hear and see what you're doing there.

The size of the room is a bit bigger than a cabin in a cruise ship, bed & shower are quite good though.

It's easy to get to city centre as there is a tram just around the corner but takes you around 15 min to get there.

The rooms are way too small. The toilet is in the bedroom. The hotel is not near any restaurants or shops. The air conditioning range is controlled by the lobby. I wanted my room warmer than 72 and was told that was as warm as I am allowed. I will never, ever stay at or recommend this property.

If you are shy and retiring types then CitizenM hotels definitely aren't for you. Having a room with the shower and toilet altogether in the same area might not be to most people's liking. You can pull the curtain across though, but why spoil the fun?

Self check in is a breeze and you are welcomed by an 'Ambassador' who is friendly and welcoming and extremely helpful and very genuine.

Big beds and a remote control that does everything bar fly the starship enterprise makes moving from the bed a chore. It can operate the lights, dimming them, changing the colour of the lights or switching them off. The remote also operates the TV as you would expect and the heating (Not sure you could call is air conditioning) and the blinds in your room.

The beds are very big and are literally wall to wall and very comfortable.

A nice big LCD TV hangs on one of the walls and you have free movies along with free internet and even free international calls included.

There is a nice bar area and the lounge areas are a cool place to chill out. All in all would definitely stay at this and any other CitizenM hotel again.

Check out the extras they sale at the bar like the soap and candles and then look closely at the Mile High gift pack they sell.

Room Tip: Roooms face either the garden or city, you pick your own when you check in.

For the convenience of staying at a walking distance to Schiphol airport, this was a great choice. I travelled with my daughter of 5, and she loved it too. The rooms are small, but what do you need for just one night to catch an early flight. The room was clean, the bed was good and the hotel had all the amenities you need as a traveller (bar, restaurant, TV, wireless internet, shop, etc). It was the design and layout of the room was in line with what you'd expect in the rest of the Netherlands: efficient use of limited space. If you take the time to work out the remote control in the room you can have a great time adjusting the ambient lighting in the room, work the curtain/blinds and operate the TV.
Staff was super friendly, and my daughter got a free cuddly toy out of the experience. The staff welcomed us at the door, and were very willing to assist the self checkin if you desired to have assistance. Same with the checkout.
Although the Hotel had all kinds off technical features I personally appreciated, the "high tech" nature of the Hotel wasn't reflected in a "high-tech" room rate, I thought it was good value for money and found the novelty aspect preferable over mainstream.
