“Breathtaking but small rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2011

I stayed at CitizenM for 6 nights part work part holiday. The rooms were extremely different and a breath of fresh air but they are very very small. The mood lighting and efficiency of the room is brilliant though.

The staff were easily the best I'd ever come across, all very friendly and enjoyed making conversation. Whilst working from my laptop in the lounge area they frequently checked up on me to see if I required any drink or food, might I add that the lounge area was perfect for work or relaxation. The food is quite expensive from the cafe area but it's all decent.

I can't quite give this place 5 stars even though I had a great time simply because I was here too long! That's right, this hotel is designed for couples on a weekend away. You only have enough room to hang 3 items of clothing so it's not ideal for a long business trip. I TOTALLY recommend this hotel but I probably won't be making a return if that makes sense.

P.S The picture as you come out of the lift on the ground floor is priceless, made me giggle every time.

This unusual hotel was an excellent base for exploring Amsterdam. Located in the Oud Zuid part of the city, it's a little way from the centre, but on a direct tram route. The area is very pleasant, with a good range of shops and restaurants. The Museumplein,w here the major museums are located is a 20 minute stroll. The hotel itself is a monument to modern design. The rooms will doubtless be thought small by US visitors, but they contain everything you need. Shower and toilet are in pod-like enclosures, and the room is dominated by a huge bed. Everything is controlled by the Moodpad, a big remote control that you use to open the blinds, adjust the lighting, control the TV, etc. Free wifi everywhere, free use of iMacs in the foyer, nice relaxing bar, food and drink available 24/7.

Room Tip: Rooms on the higher floors have some good views - but it's no big deal.

It was a bit small and dated but overall good. Staff were very friendly and made the place a nice place to stay and could do with a little updating.

Just got back from amsterdam on tuedsay and had the pleasure of staying at CitizenM. It is a very different concept of hotel but we loved it.. very trendy, cool and relaxed. Staff were brilliant, very open and chatty... we spent a hour or so in the bar one evening and it is great for people watching and just relaxing..

The hotel is a little out of the centre but is right in the door step of the tram route number 5.. there are some places to eat and drink near by and as it is out of the main strip you get to experince a nice side of Amstredam.

Rooms are very comfy, loved the free movies, shower and little sayings on all the walls, postcards etc.. made u have a little smile.

This concept isn't for everyone, but in big cities this is brilliant... somewhere like new york or london would be awesome..

We took the ferry to amstredam and that was a experince.. lots to see but we did two days in the city and that was enough..

Great mini break, fabulous hotel... would use this chain again if they open up more sites :-)

As a side note, this hotel was great value, amsterdam on the other hand is a bit on the pricey side for food and drinks but it is a major city....

This was a great place to stay, but definitely a little different. The tram stops right outside the door, so it's easy to get anywhere. The rooms are nice, but the shower is kind of annoying to use. Also, there is very little privacy in the rooms, so don't stay there with anyone you are not completely comfortable with. Overall, good value in Amsterdam.

Just had a lovely 3 night stay in this cool hotel. I couldnt find any faults with it. Its perfect for a short break. Its a 2 minute walk from Zuid train station which is only 5 minutes from airport. ( 1st stop) . The tram ( line 5 ) stops outside the door . Its only 10 or 15 minutes into Dam Square. Ideal.
Checking in and out was quick and easy. Staff in the hotel were friendly and helpful.
The room maybe small but its very cool and well designed. The bed is massive and so comfortable. I dont see why people complain about the toilet and shower . there is a massive curtain you can draw across the room which seperates them from the bed and chair. There are loads of free movies on the tv and free wi-fi. You cant ask for more really. Il be back for sure and il check them out in other citys aswell.

The bar serves 24 hours.

Great hotel.

Perfect for 3 or 4 day breaks . Ideal for couples

This hotel is very innovative because it offers a no nonsense approach to traveling. It is the perfect hotel to visit Amsterdam because tram 5 ( that goes straight to the town center) is just steps away from the entrance. The staff is always very friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean.
The big bed is heavenly and the shower is illuminated. It made me look forward to returning to the hotel every night. What more can you ask for ?
