Stayed in this hotel with my family and my girlfriend.
It is a further away from the the Dam square, but its good because the area where the hotel is located in very quiet and safe neighbourhood. by tram it takes 3-4 stops to get to the dam square directly, by metro it takes 2 stops directly to central station, and from there u are on the dam street which is very close to the Dam square. Rooms are ok, small but clean, beds are very small, for a double room me being 194cm it was a bid to small and not enough wide, they got some sort of different standard in size I think. Towels changed everyday and so on. Breakfast is ok, toast, sausage, egg, sweets, good cafe latte.
Make sure you buy your water, food for lunch in the grocery shops named ALBERT something, because the water in the city supermarkets costs around 2,50 euro. for a bottle, sandwiches are expensive also... if you like to chill like me during a weekend, make sure you get your alcochol sorted out, because you can not get whiskey and vodka in the supermarkets in the city, none of the shops sell them, the only place where you can get some real stuff is the big grocery store called ALBERT something (dont rememeber the full name) I was lucky I got it all sort out at the airport of Riga :)
For sure, visit Red Light District, Flower market, Leidsplein for restaurants, you got to taste the ribs at the Rancho restaurant, JUST FAB, piccolino ristorante was not the best place to eat, it took to wait nearly 2 hours for the food and the quality of it wasnt that good. Dame Square was Ok, for some drinks during a day go at the Majestic place. If you want to get some good quality meals and stuff like that, just avoid the Dam square because its all formulated for tourists... better visit leidsplein square.
On and on a good overall experience of the hotel. the guy at the reception was really friendly and fun person, always happy and smiling.
Amsterdam is a perfect place to chill with plenty stuff to do and visit. or just walk around holding hands with your girlfriend during the evening, sit down at the open air cafes by the channel have some beers or jacks with coke, talk and simply relax.
P.S be carefull of the city tours its just a rip off, they take you only there where they can sell something to you, explore the city by yourself.
