“A beautiful apartment in an ideal location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

We visited this apartment for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time. The apartment is of the quality of a 5 star hotel but with a personal service you would never get in a large hotel- plus a fully stocked fridge and coffee maker meaning from which we were able to have breakfasts and lunches in the apartment without having to visit a shop. The location of the apartment is perfect and it is within walking distance of the main areas you might want to visit (the museums, parks) but the immediate area (9 streets) is just beautiful with plenty of independent designer stores, lovely cafes and restaurants on your doorstep to keep you occupied, I'd recommend the Italian restaurant just across the road 'Bussio'- which Charles recommended to us- it was excellent- and also a few streets away is La Perla where we had some of the best pizzas ever! - not to mention the gorgeous views of the canal out of the large windows- great for people watching with a glass of wine. The bathroom is excellent- with an over-sized bathtub , candles and orchids throughout.
I'd definitely recommend this apartment to others - for the location and decor but especially for the attention to detail and recommendations/service offered by the owner Charles and his assistants, who were always on hand when we needed them but also respected our privacy when we just wanted to laze around the apartment on our own.

My family and me had a wonderful time in Petit Prince. The apartment is welcoming and its location is excellent, close to the Anne Frank Museum and to a tram stop. You can walk from it to all the touristic places, as well as. Charles, Menno and Joel were very friendly and made us feel like we were in our own home.

We had a fantastic time in the Petit Prince apartment. The location of the apartment is fantastic with some major sites a very short walk away, and the tram stop was a block away. Being right next to the Jordaan and 9 Straaitjies(streets) there were enough excellent restaurants, cafes and shops to choose from. However the fridge were filled everyday with loads of food and drinks that it was far better just to have our own breakfast, lunch, dinner in the apartment. After all no restaurant could possible have a better view than our own Petit Prince apartment, that's for sure!!The apartment were very comfortable and we enjoyed spending time in the apartment looking out of the windows at the busy canal life below. Everyday our fridge were filled with extra food, wine, bear and other drinks, including homemade quiche and apple pie.We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the apartment to anybody. However it is much better for 2 people. We were a family of 4 with 2 grown up children, so this limited the space in the living/dining room area where they slept on a (comfortable) sleeper coach.

We had a lovely experience staying at le Petit Prince.. We meet Menno on our first day,he welcomed us at the apartments and gave us a few tips on where to eat and what to visit, even giving us a map which helped us a lot when we were sightseeing.
The rooms were lovely as well, felt like we were in our own little bubble. The fridge was stocked up and had everything that we needed and didn't think we would need but enjoyed nevertheless.

We were fortunate to have some delicious apple pie which was prepared by the owner, Charles which was so delicious. What was a shame was not being able to eat it all! The three days we stayed there we were spoilt with food, and the view from the apartment of the canals. It was beautiful to sit on the balcony and enjoy the view at night.

There were many restaurants in the area which were in, and there was a lovely Thai takeaway we discovered. It is quite close to the Anne Frank Museum and close to the other attractions.

I would defintely recommend staying at the hotel!

We had a really fantastic time in the Petit Prince loft apartment. From before we even arrived in Amsterdam, we felt welcomed and this continued all the way throughout our stay. Charles, Menno and Nick could not have been more helpful and were always looking for ways to make our stay better, which included bringing us surprise treats such as homemade apple pie, cakes and other delicious items.

The location of the apartment is fantastic with all the site of Amsterdam being a very short walk away, as well as there being a number of excellent restaurants, cafes and shops being right on the doorstep.

The apartment is furnished to a high standard and we were very comfortable and enjoyed spending time in the apartment looking out of the windows at the canal below.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend the apartment to anybody.

We just returned from a lovely stay at the Petit Prince apartment in the heart of Amsterdam's Little Nine Streets boutique shopping area. Pre-arrival communication with the owner, Charles, was good. Deposit was required to guarantee the reservation, with the balance due prior to arrival. No credit cards accepted; payment was made via bank transfer (which was easy.) We were met upon arrival by both Nick and Menno, who gave us an orientation of the apartment and local area, and handled our luggage (necessary, as access to the apartment is via two tight, curving, typically old Dutch staircases.) A cheerful fire, candles, and beautiful bouquet of orange tulips greeted us. The location is SUPERB. The Anne Frank house is 3 minute walk away, while the street directly ahead of the apartment leads you to the Dam/Palace in 5-10 minutes. The apartment has a compact, yet very efficient kitchen tucked behind cabinet doors; we ordered the deluxe package, so it came stocked with wine, beer, fresh juices, fresh bread/croissants, gourmet cheeses/meats/olives, eggs, milk, bacon, coffee, tea, etc. The perishables were restocked daily. We made breakfast in the apartment most mornings, along with the occasional sandwich. Nights were spent sitting on the sofa gazing out at the canal street scene, sipping wine and enjoy tappas. The apartment is not inexpensive, but the cost translates into good value when the meal expenses saved are factored in. In addition to the gourmet delights and location/view, other positives include: wifi, safety deposit box, washer/dryer, iron, a good quality hairdryer, robes, slippers, underfloor heating and heated towel racks in the bathroom, good bed, great pillows/bed linens, umbrellas, luggage racks, dishwasher, Nespresso machine, insta-hot, pots/pans, fresh flowers, candles, gas fireplace (!!), large, working windows in both front and rear of apartment, sofabed, and all lights on dimmers for great ambience. Bathroom is very good, with soaker tub, separate shower, two sinks, and toilet tucked behind a half wall. Flat screen television, with global channels, can only be viewed from the bed. (You should be enjoying the views of Amsterdam, anyway!) Housekeeping was provided once during the week (general cleaning/change of sheets), but someone came each day to empty the trash, restock the kitchen, and freshen the flowers. Apartment has small assortment of office supplies and maps of the area tucked into a small closet. Tram stop within a two minute walk. Charles has typed up an interesting list of suggested sights, restaurant recommendations, and other tips -- very helpful. He lists the number of a taxi service that is reliable and less expensive than general cabs; they will charge a flat rate to go to the Aalsmeer flower auction, etc. We used them to go to Schiphol several times, (picking up daily rental cars for excursions outside of the city.) Don't bother bringing a car into the city -- parking is almost impossible to find, and cost prohibitive. Although we rented a car from Schiphol each time, is is less expensive - (saves the 50 Euro airport surcharge) - to rent from the car rental agencies on the Overtoom (Europe Car, among others.) The negatives are that the apartment, while generally clean, lacks attention to detail (the laundry area was atrocious, with soap powder everywhere, old slippers/towels stuck on the side of the machines, etc. The actual soap dispenser was full of gunk. Being the type A person that I am, I cleaned out the debris and wiped the top of the machines, but it needs a good, deep clean. Also, the extra linens/sheets/pillows were thrown helter skelter onto the tops of the shelves. I refolded and stacked, but who knows if it will remain that way. Some of the towels need replacing, although others were fine. No soap provided. These are minor complaints, but addressing them would make the apartment faultless. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, feeling as if we had our own little apartment in Amsterdam. Charles, Menno and Nick were kind and eager to please. We will definitely book there again, and can recommend it without hesitation.

We have been home for just an hour (not even unpacked) and I feel compelled to write about our time at Petit Prince, it was so exceptional. We stayed in the apartment on the 1st floor (not the loft which is the floor above). From the moment we arrived and found Menno standing by the front door waiting for us, the welcome and service we received throughout our stay was superb. The apartment is gorgeous and so stylishly done. A sitting-room with dining area at the front (with roaring fire, Bose speakers, candles galore and beautiful fresh flowers everywhere) and floor to ceiling windows with amazing views over the canal and the chic '9 streets' area (read Greenwich Village but prettier). There is a small kitchen area with everything one could need and a fridge stocked with beer, wine, juice, Coke etc as well as copious amounts of delicious deli food + everything you could want for breakfast - fresh fruit, yogurts, milk, eggs, bacon, croissant, bread + a Nespresso coffee machine. The bedroom has plenty of cupboard space, an amazingly comfy 5'6" double bed and a large flat screen TV. Finally a very large bathroom with bath and shower and twin basins (with yet more orchids and fresh flowers everywhere) We are fussy customers but the owners had thought of everything and we just loved having a place of our own which soon felt like home. We were equipped with phone numbers in case we wanted anything (which we didn't) and Menno very unobtrusively checked in with us each day to ensure we were happy. We've decided we never want to stay in a city hotel again - this is definitely the way forward ! Did we miss having the services of a concierge, the forced smiles from receptionists, the bills every time we wanted a cup of tea or glass of wine, the turn-down service, housekeepers knocking on the door ?? NOT ONE BIT, we just loved the privacy, the freedom and feeling like locals.
The apartment is also located in possibly THE most convenient and delightful part of the city - you are right in the heart of things and we walked everywhere. There are stunning shops and restaurants within a stone's throw, it's 3 mins on foot from Anne Frank's house, 10 mins from the main shopping street and 15 mins from the Rijksmuseum (don't miss).
I would not recommend Petit Prince for a family - its very much a place for a romantic stay for a couple. The owner Charles has several properties in the city (they all look stunning) and when you email him to enquire about availability, he personally replies with full details about all his available properties and you can take your pick depending on your requirements. His approach to service and determination that you will have a perfect stay is extraordinary. Hotels around the world could learn a lot from Charles. We've never before stayed somewhere so perfect. Don't hesitate - just book it !
