Just returned from a short stay in Amsterdam, where we stayed at the Botel. This is the first time we ever stayed on a boat, and we didn't really know what to expect.
Having said that, we were very pleasantly surprised. The room was adequate, it could have been a little bigger, but having said that, as we only used it as a base it was big enough.
The bathroom was small, but again adequate. Our room was spotlessly clean and we had clean towels every day. The staff were very friendly, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them.
Breakfast was continental, and there were sausages, bacon, boiled eggs and a seelection of cold meats, cereals juice etc.
Safes are in all of the rooms, and cost one euro per day. There was a deposite of fifteen euros but this was all refunded at the end of the stay. You could hire a kettle as well for a deposite of ten euros, again all refundable.
Although the Botel is situated well away from the city centre, travelling to and from the Botel did not present any prroblems with the amazing free ferries.
One thing Amsterdam has all sewn up is the public transport, it is very cheap, reliable and punctual.
Amsterdam is a very unusual place, very clean and very pretty. There are loads of things to see and to visit. There are loads of tours available, but having said that we did not use any, just a map and " Sat Nav" which was more than enough.
We did go on a canal tour and this was very interesting and cost 7.50 euros and we did visit the Tullips which again was good.
Everything is expensive in Amsterdam, beer is between 4 and 5 euros a pint and shorts about the same.
A very different type of holiday, but one I am glad I did, it is not the type of holiday you would do year after year, but one worth repeating every few years.
This is a holiday I would efinately recommend to somebody who has never been there before.
