We visited Sara's Pancake House on 6 March 2013 after picking up a discount coupon card from Bastion (Best Western Airport ) Hotel lobby. This sit-down restaurant was conveniently located near Anne Frank's House and we knew that pancakes were a local treat. We were eating a late lunch/snack (1300ish). Our first clue of the impending bad meal should have been that we were the only ones there and most of the interior lights were off, but it was the low season and we sat right by the front window to people-watch on the sidewalk. Then when seating us, the waitress advised us that she did not have 'hot drinks' (coffee, tea, etc), which I suspect was because she didn't want to go through the effort to heat drinks for four guests. Still we sat and read the menu. The prices seemed Euro-fair (7.50 Euro for the average waffle/pancake topped with fruit or chocolate and whipped cream, some a little more and some a little less) and there were many choices of both pancakes, waffles and traditional breakfast plates. But as we were reading the menu, the sole employee stepped out onto the sidewalk to smoke (not appealing to a non-smoker whose food you will soon be handling...and though I did not spy, I'm not sure if she washed her hands afterwards or not). We ordered and were served waffles that while good, were far smaller (about 5 inches square) than we were anticipating. She served us a liter of water which was in a dirty glass bottle that because of the taste, I suspect was filled from the tap (for which we paid 4.40 Euros). While we were eating in the front window seat, two of the waitresses friends stopped by and were talking, joking and laughing so loudly that we could hardly talk to each other at our table. It was not a good atmosphere. After our 10% discount, we left forking out 31.30 Euros for four small waffles and a liter of questionable water...and no tip was left! Afterwards, while walking through other streets, we saw that we could have obtained the same waffles (maybe better) at a take-away stand for 2.90 Euros each. I would like to state that the woman pictured on the Sara's Pancake House 'Minicard' (discount card) I suspect is the owner, but was NOT our waitress. Our waitress did not act as a proper business owner should, but she was the only one present during our meal. Don't get suckered in to this tourist trap like we did!
