“A boat, in Amsterdam, how can you say no!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2014

This is the place to stay if you are on a budget in Amsterdam, we loved it! It is so close to the train station and maximum 20 minutes walk to the city centre. The atmosphere on the boat is great and the owners are lovely and always keen to help and have a chat. Everything was clean and overall it was a comfortable stay. The rooms are small but you kind of expect that on a boat, it's all part of the fun! Each room has it's own bathroom with flushing toilet and hot shower, and there is the added bonus of free wifi. We are breakfast lovers and were very pleased with what was on offer: tea, coffee and orange juice, cereals with milk and yoghurt, and a range of breads with spreads, meat and cheese. All the food was quickly replenished too. The only negative was that our beds got damp when it rained even though the window was closed (it was a torrential downpour though). We would 100% recommend!

The hotel is located in front of Renzo Piano's building. Very cheap with great breakfast!
I reccomend renting a bike to move in the city! If you go as a couple I reccomend you ask a suite with bathroom inside.

I had a great time staying there. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. There was a wide selection for breakfast from cereals to meats and cheeses with some stuff for the veggie as well. The room was fit for purpose, basically a place to recharge for a few hours, change and then go back on the town. It is really close to central station or close to the red light area and coffee shops if that is the intent of your visit. I've seen some of the other comments from others but I don't think their expectations were realistic. It has all the basic amenities and wi-fi, yes the toilet is a bit smelly but as it is pointed out it's a working boat and not a cruise ship and more than adequate for what we used it for. I'd gladly stay there again. I'm 6 foot tall and I fitted with a couple of inches to spare so be careful around the 6' height range .

We stayed there from 29 oct to 4 nov...the cabin was really small and cold!only one small towel per person and when we requested onother one they asked why????they never change the sheet and once the towels...breakfast quite boring Mrs Chin was always polite and nice...This place has a very nice position but maybe we were too old for this kind of experience!if you are young and dont want to spend too much is the Perfect place for you:-)

Staff was not very welcoming. Room was very small and a little bit smelly. Toilet/shower was not hygienic (mould on shower curtain). Floor was cold and moist. Every piece of textile exposed in this room went damp and it was impossible to dry towels and such. Breakfast was ok, but the bread was boring and dry. The only real plus was the location (around 15 min. walk from central station).

It is charming and an adventure, no question. Also it is very clean and the owners are friendly and helpful. The rooms are tiny, but with own shower and toilet. But the walls are very thin and you can hear EVERYTHING in- and outside. Still it can be quiet at night. And you should have extra blankets winter - it is freezing cold at night. For a short stay with earplugs or a very deep sleep, a good condition (to climb the upper bed) and a good sense of humor you might love it. It is very cheap and very central. If you are in Amsterdam by train, you can walk. If you are by car, stop in front of the boat to bring your luggage to your room, then park far outside (Park and Ride Sloterdjik only 8? per 24 hours including one 24 hour ticket either for train or for bus). Breakfast is included and is served between 9 and 10:30 o'clock. It is a good breakfast with a wonderful strong coffee, Dutch cheese, marmelade, peanutbutter, cereals and a good selection of different types of bread. We might be booking this again, but never again in winter.

My sister and I found Botel Zebra when all of the hostels shaped up to be expensive and gross. We were amazed at how lovely Botel Zebra was. It took 10 minutes to walk to Botel Zebra from Amsterdam Centraal-you literally walk out of the railway station and to the left for those 10 minutes and over a little bridge and you're there. It was located incredibly close to the center of the city where all of the fun happens. The lodgings were comfy-don't forget to turn on the heat at night! It was chilly w/o heat, but with the heat on it was home sweet home warm and cozy. The shower was great-far better than the one I used in a more expensive hotel in Madrid. Overall, I am dying to go back!

Room Tip: Ask for the separate suite-it has its own key and makes the place feel like your own.
