I had the privilege of being the first "real" guest of the hotel when I walked in because of its proximity to the airport while they were still in their test phase. The hotel is very inexpensive as Amsterdam airport hotels go, and yet it is an easy 100m covered walk to the terminal while many other hotels have only bus service. The concept is fantastic: very quiet, a very comfortable and luxurious bed, very nice shower and appliances, ridiculously low international phone charges, free Wifi and movies. What makes the price possible is the clever utilization of the most modern appliances and tricks to fit everything that needs to be there in a very compact space, resulting in a small but fully functional and even luxurious room of a rather futuristic but cheerful and pleasing design. The hotel also has a small restaurant / canteen focusing on sushi, wraps and other healthy fare that gets you a good meal quickly. In my opinion a real winner.

We stayed for one night as a "test-sleeper".

What a great looking hotel! The lobby is looking like some living rooms, with design furniture, big screen plasma televisions and comfortable seats.

The rooms are small (2x7 meter), but large enough for a pleasant stay. The bed is very large (2x2m) and comfortable. Everything in the room works trough the Philips Moodpad. You can set the temperature, open and close the curtains, set the lights (in lots of colours), set a wake up call, use the TV (with free movies on demand) and use the radio with this Moodpad.

There is a large shower (with hand- and rainshower), toilet and sink in the room. Allso here, everything looks great.

There is a large CanteenM, where you can get lots of food and drinks. This also looks very good and the food and drinks tastes great.

The people who work in the hotel are very helpful. The come from lots of countries and all speak good English (some speak Dutch, or other languages too).

This is a great hotel for a perfect price!

CitizenM offers you the most relaxed stay ever. It's almost a waste to take the train and go to Amsterdam.
You'd rather stay in the hotel to enjoy a Vesper Martini, some sushi and watch a movie.
CitizenM thought of everything. AM / PM showergel, cosi mood lights, kingsize beds, rainshowers, need I go on...

We just got back from Amsterdam to visit a friend - and specifically to stay in this hotel. I love beautiful design and wanted to visit as soon as I heard about it. I was happily surprised how much attention has been spent on each and every detail.

It is quite new - both in concept and build. It's an upscale pre-fab design that is compact yet efficient, beautiful, and best of all affordable.

Concerns of mine were getting to inner city Amsterdam since it is near the airport, however there is a direct train that takes 15 minutes and costs about 7 euros for 2 adults. It was not a problem traveling back and forth. I would gladly do so again.

Getting to the hotel is easy - there is a covered walk way leading to the hotel. (If you arrive late like we did walk to the right out of the front of the airport and you'll soon see it).

The builders and designers went all out with the Eames chairs in the lobby, Vitra design elements, apple computers, design books lining the shelves, and the self check in (and cute / functional room keys that double as luggage tag when you've finished your stay) are wonderful.

Best of all are the rooms. We had a view overlooking the runway of the airport, which was unique. Even being so close there was absolutely no problem with noise. There were two types of blinds. Make sure you close the thicker one if you don't want to get woken up by the sun in the morning.

Another nice benefit is that the movies in the rooms are free with tons of variety. There were also many English speaking channels.

The personalization of the rooms is very special. You can adjust the temperature (Yes - even cool air conditioning which is a rarity!), mood lighting, music, etc. with a Philips computer that works similarly to an ipod touch. My husband is already telling me we need to have one ourselves.

The beds are enormous and very comfortable. I loved that they don't have awful flat European style pillows. It was a perfect place to relax and we really looked forward to coming back at the end of each day.

As for the 'bathroom' the pod doors slide closed and there is also a curtain to close if you need more privacy. Make sure the shower doors are closed completely or the shower will not function. It has both a rain overhead and hand held shower. Be cautious of where you put things like a razor - mine fell on the side of the circle plate where the water drains, although I could get it out.

This hotel is sexy, sophisticated, and very design oriented. I'm already looking forward to hearing where the next one will be built.

Design aficionados - this is highly recommended!

  • Liked — design elements, personality, personalization, individuality.
  • Disliked — that they aren't in other cities yet.
