“Reviews were right”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 23, 2013 via mobile

Picked this restaurant based on the TA reviews, which proved accurate. As we live on the Pacific Rim, we are accustomed to very good sushi and teppan yaki. The sushi here was perfect: fresh, tasty fish and not too much rice. The grilled salmon teriyaki and lobster were wonderful. The sauces and seasoning were not overpowering, and the fish were cooked just the right amount. Even the green tea ice cream (with fresh fruit) eas great. A little pricey, but you do get what you pay for in this case. No regrets.

“Nice room, average food, terrible service, strange system”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

Nice setting, the food was typical sushi, decent but nothing to rave about, a little expensive but man was the service bad and adhered to a strict 'system'
They sat us in the lounge for ten minutes even though the restaurant was 3/4 empty. (Person 1)
Finally got seated with a drink order but didn't give us menus (Person 2)
Asked for menues, said they bring them later (person 3), its their system
Menues came (person 4)
Order taker came (person 5) whe proceeded to insist she take the order from the people around the table in her order. One of us was not quite ready so she then waited before going to The next person. Weird. Said it was their system to get people their food? These asked if we were sharing or not but who cares if you are insisting on ordering in a specific order. Now the best part, the food took almost an hour and a half to come! We asked at about an hour but instead of apologizing, she insisted the order was rung in 30 minutes ago, meanwhile, a table who arrived 20 minutes after us were almost done eating. The waitress then came back after checking with the chef, and said it was coming and they made it all fresh. No kidding! Isn't every sushi fresh that isn't fast food sushi? Did I mention the restaurant was less than half full? Finally, one plate came but these had to wait 10 more minutes for the others, two of which they hadn't started when plate one came. What about their wierd ordering system? Keep in mind this was just standard sushi rolls and pieces. All in all disappointing, bordering on complete frustration.

“Great sushi, beautiful atmosphere, lovely!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2013

I was skeptical of how good Hosokawa would be - it's located next to the Holland Casino across from the Hard Rock Hotel; hard to be in a more touristy area! My fears were immediately allayed from the first bite. We had several rounds of sushi and sashimi, good sake, and lovely service from the very helpful staff. The interior is very tastefully decorated and greatly adds to the overall enjoyment of an excellent meal.

“Very good quality and taste”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

We went here on a Sunday night.
The restaurant was far from crowded luckily so plenty of space to choose from.

First the atmosphere: cosy place.

The food: excellent food, the fish was of a very good quality, and all sushi, sashimi, maki, etc... were excellent.

The service: it's ok. Except for an efficient main waiter, the other helping waiters were a bit slow, and seems as if they were a bit dreaming in another world... Still this did not stop us from enjoying dinner ;-)

The location: in central touristy Amsterdam, so excellent location if you're visiting Amsterdam, near Museum plein, next to Leidseplein.
So as a wrap-up, a good address where you will enjoy your excellent Japanese dinner, where hopefully waiters are more awake on other weed days :-)

“One of the best in Europe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2012

Am always surprised to taste Hosokawa san's real treatment of fish for Sushi and Sashimi.
Am traveling over the Europe and am always tryung to visit their best Japoanese restaurants.
Isami sushi and Hanawa in Paris, some sushi restaurants in Bercelona, etc.
Hosokawa san is also excellent to cook Seafood, Beef, Lamb and Veg by real Teppan yaki.
He was the chef of Hotel O in Japan knowing more than what their Amsterdam Hotel Chefs do and cook.
It is worthy to visit there even from Japan. I am visiting there 4 times evary year from Tokyo.
Another best in Europe is in UK, Tajima Tei at London.
