“A very pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

We had been doing the Red Light District for a few hours and were tired and hungry. Were heading out of the area to find a spot for dinner and came across this restaurant. Weren't quite sure about it but are really glad we stopped.

Very cosy, view of the kitchen, polite professional service, (even though we only ordered one main) and when the entrees arrived we were blown away. BEST SATAY EVER (and we eat Thai a lot!). Dim Sums were excellent and spiced to perfection.

Red wine from d"Oc was very pleasant and good value by the glass.

The red chicken curry was just superb (rice included) and extra rice was supplied without being asked.

All in all we were very happy with this meal and a new standard for some of our regular Thai restaurants to aim for.

Well done Kooning Van Siam.

“Best green Thai curry ever”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2013

Arrived with minimal expectations but food was first class. Intended to sit outside but soon suffered a shower but despite being busy a table inside was soon found. If you like Thai food this restaurant is a must.

“Not the same....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2013

This used to be my favorite Thai anywhere in the world. I heard a few years ago it had changed owners and went there soon after, finding it much the same. This time, though, it appears the new owners have put their stamp on the restaurant.

Appetizers are close to what I remember, but we ordered our "usual" of Beef Thai Basil and Tofu Panang, and while both were pretty good, neither was anything special. Portions have gotten HUGE (catering to American tourists maybe?). Wine list much smaller (no more Pouilly Fume!) but the house white by the glass was inexpensive and a nice wine for the food.

Service was faster than I remember, but we were there pretty early.
