“A nice bit of Amsterdam”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013 via mobile

If you're looking for a change from a big hotel then the Tulipa is the perfect place. It's like staying in a friend's house. I had the canal-view room which overlooked Leidsegracht. King bed was comfortable, bathroom huge, shower hot and facilities just perfect for a few days in Amsterdam.

The friendly welcome on arrival included a coffee and a rundown of the city's attractions on a big map. Jan is a guy who knows his way around. Both Jan and Paula do their utmost to make your stay as pleasant as they can with suggestions as to how to fill your day and plenty of in-the-know advice.

The hotel is 2 minutes' stroll from Leidseplein which is itself on the 1, 2 or 5 tram line from the middle of town. Jordaan district is close by as are many restaurants, eetcafés and places to see. Amsterdam is so easy to get around on foot and Tulipa is well located.

The 197 bus gets you to and from Leidseplein with ease (and only costs €4) so forget the train if you're coming and going from the airport.

Daily breakfast is served in the dining room downstairs and is expertly cooked by Jan or Paula. Muesli, cereal, scrambled eggs and mushrooms, banana pancakes, fruit, toast are all available. Coffee is excellent. This is a good time to get some advice for the day's activities from the hosts.

In summary, this little 3-room B&B made my stay in Amsterdam a real delight. It's just perfect for a city break. Request the canal-view room for a truly Dutch experience!

We stayed in the canal view suite the first weekend of Nov 2012. The entire experience was smooth - booking, communication with Paula, perfect directions from the airport to the hotel, and of course the stay itself! We were welcomed with hot tea and a map with recommendations. The suite was large, with great sitting area and a balcony overlooking the intersection of 2 canals. Amenities included a fridge, water kettle, and coffee maker. The bathroom is up another flight of stairs (interior to the room), but large, private, and with heated floors. We were so busy we only enjoyed breakfast one morning, but it was excellent. It is also a great location to get out and about nearby, but also to grab a tram to other neighborhoods. We hope to be back!

Our room was huge, bathroom huge and very comfortable set-up. Most comfortable pillows in all of our travels; no small thing for getting rest. Wonderful breakfast both days prepared according to guest schedule. Pretty location and well-located. Paula was absolutely terrific; genuinely friendly and helpful. We lost a bag on the train on the way to Amsterdam and she just jumped in to help however she could. Stairway is steep but manageable. We wish them much success and happiness.

Travellers from U.S., out of the Midwest.

Room Tip: Our room was on the kitchen side, upstairs facing rear. Large windows, high ceilings and quite large...

My husband and I visited Amsterdam in the spring of 2011 and stayed at Tulipa. Everything about this B&B is perfect. Location, breakfast, room, hospitality you name it. We will def come back and stay at Tulipa next time in Holland.

Stayed for 2 nights in the canal view room with balcony. Warmly welcomed by Paula and provided with maps and a chat about our plans. She was certainly happy to provide recommendations and advice. Room tastefully decorated in a chic slightly retro, and elegantly styled room. Bed and linens very comfortable...slept very well. Enjoyed our complimentary drinks on the balcony too. Breakfast was the best we've had in a B&B - high quality ingredients with plenty of fresh produce. Different cooked option each day (one day was lovely eggs with veggies, one day banana pancakes!). Each day we also had tea/coffee, freshly squeezed orange juice, fresh fruit, yogurt, delicious toast, cheese, ham and cereal!! :) Only minor tweaks would be to have milk in the rooms and that the bathroom door blind is a bit thicker...so we can't see our spouse on the loo! :) Very well located and would both recommend and stay again. Thank you!

We stayed in the canal view room which had its own entrance and two floors. The space was enormous with a comfortable dining and sitting area and large comfortable bed. The balcony was lovely; it was great to sit out at night and watch the boats go past. Breakfast in the morning was plentiful and healthy, which made a great start to the day. We didn't realise just how big Amsterdam was, we walked for miles exploring every direction but it's well worth it and Tulipa makes for a good location to get to most places by walking. I can't imagine a better B&B, it was great value for money and we'd definitely stay again if we returned to Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Canal view room on the first floor

We stayed 4 nights in this wonderful B&B that Paula, Jan & Hetty highlight
with their smile and kindness. Breakfast were marvellous, and the Canal
view room really huge and classy. But watch your step in the stairs, you
really do not want to fall in these. Joking apart you need your full body
condition to climb up there but it worth it !

Location is pretty good, all Amsterdam center can be reach by a litle walk
(or tram/bike if you prefer). Really a great place to stay to visit this
beautiful city
