“STRAIGHT FROM THE HORSES MOUTH”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2011

My husband and I have just returned (22 Dec11) from a six day visit to Amsterdam. We read the findings of previous guests and thought we would tell it as it was for us.

We enjoyed our stay at the Blue Square and occupied an attractive corner room on the second floor to the rear of the Hotel, which looked like it had recently been refurbished. It was very clean and quiet. Although the windows were large, there was one at the side that opened. The room overlooked a canal. The air conditioning worked perfectly. Breakfast was extensive and generous. The friendly staff made us very welcome and were only too happy to be of help. For example in providing fried eggs to complete our English breakfast on request.

Getting to and from the City is easy. The tickets (obtained from Reception) are valid on the tram, bus and Metro. For the tram, turn right when leaving the Hotel, don’t cross over but walk to the end of the road passed the market and shops. The stop for No 14 tram will have “Flevopark” on the front and is just to the right of the junction. “Dam Square” where its all happening is sixteen stops. Each stop is displayed inside the tram as you reach it. If you ask the conductor for a time table, all the stops are listed on the cover. Swipe your ticket when entering and leaving the tram.

Returning to the Hotel, the 14 Tram stop is opposite the main entrance of the Magna Plaza shopping complex in Dam Square. The tram will have “Slotermeer” on the front. Get off at ‘Plein ‘40-’45. When you get off the tram, cross the road and walk to the right for the Hotel. Watch out for traffic and bikes at all times when on foot! We survived Naples but had a couple of near misses with bikes without lights.

Room Tip: From our experience (we are well past retirement age) see the room before accepting it. Ground flo...

Having come off my trip in Paris (see Hotel de la Tour Eiffel) Best Western blew me away! It was roomy with modern comforts (thermostat, hot pot for tea/coffee, solid free WiFi). It was cold and rainy and our rooms were comfortable enough to stay in most of the day to wait things out. The Not really much to say or criticize about Best Western Blue Square: the staff was great and it really was a pleasant stay. The only thing I can possibly "complain" about is that this hotel was a little out of the way. However, this really encouraged you to know the public transport system to get to where you want...which isn't really a bad thing at all, is it?

The favourite hotel of our Contiki Tour Blue Square had a great breakfast and really nice rooms. The room was modern, with a nice bathroom and a safe and all very clean and tidy. There was even a view of a little canal in the hallway near our room. There is a supermarket and other shops nearby. The breakfast was very tasty - buffet style with really yummy bacon, eggs, pastries, yoghurt, fruit and cereals. We had a dinner there too which was quite nice. Location is not the best but you can jump on a tram into the city without having to change trams.

We stayed here for 3 nights from the 3rd december to the 6th we had a triple and a double room and both were lovely and clean. Beds and pillows are comfy the staff are all very helpful and gave us any info we needed such as tram numbers to get you can also buy the tickets at the hotel it i about a twenty minute tram journey into the centre which is fine as we were aware of this and they stop just down the road from the hotel number 14. Breakfast was very good lots of choice, we also ate at the hotel two nights to save us going back into the centre all our meals were nice and so was the wine :0) would stay again and also free internet in the lobby and a free wifi code for your room.

Myself and my partner stayed in this hotel for two nights and both nights we stayed we had a comfortable and enjoyable experience. The Rooms are clean, tidy and spacey they have alot of draw space and a large wardrobe for clothes. The bathroom was very clean with a comfortable bath and shower, we had a flat screen TV and tea and coffee making facility's. The bed was a double bed which was very comfortable and was very spacious the sheets were very clean and pillows were very comfortable. We had a air conditioning unit in our room and could adjust the temperature to what we wanted. Our room faced a canal which was nice. The breakfast was very nice and had a wide range to pick from also with fresh jucie and water the breakfast area was very comfortable to sit and eat also. We got the tram to dam square which only took 15/20 mins and a taxi back one night which cost 25 euro. Overall our stay here was very nice and we would deafinatly stay here again when visiting Amsterdam.

Room Tip: Deafinatly ask for a double bed as ours was so nice and we had a perfect sleep. Also you can buy tra...

The hotel was great. Staff were very friendly and the room was clean, big and the bed was very comfortable. It was a short (15min) tram ride into the city but it was quiet enough and had plenty of shops around for everything we needed. Food was good, a little expensive but nice.

I was very disappointed in this hotel. The staff are very rude and seem to intentionally be unhelpful in trying to locate anything. I was expecting at least Best Western courteous service, but these folks acted as though they were bothered by even checking a guest in. When I asked for some ice, it took about 20 minutes. The rooms are small, not very nice, and it's just not a pleasant experience.
