“Terrible experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2012

The most dirty place that i have been in my life. It ruined my first 3 days in Amsterdam until we moved out from there. How can I start? This woman welcome us with a dirty room, she just changed the cover sheets in front of us, that's all! gave us 2 little towels. She didn't mention that we would share the shower and toilet (which smells like hell, since no one cleaning there) with another 3 girls in the other room, no shampoo or soap at all, and of course we almost had to beg for toilet paper.. with some nerves she dared to say that we could find "the breakfast" in the little cooler she had in the kitchen "self-service" and the bread in the microwave because of "the mice", of course "the breakfast" is shared too like roomates with strangers, "the breakfast" consisted in all leftovers from the other people before us, a bag of ham, a half piece of kraft cheese, 4 eggs anyone wanted to cook, and a butter with bread crumbs and finger marks, what a joke! aah the internet offered is from the 80's slow grianding experience that make you beg for wireless. The only positive is the location, that's it! This should be in the category of Hostels! this is not close to a Bed and Breakfast whatsover!

I have been to bibies BB now 3 times. One time we stayed in the same room, the other time is a little smaller room, but still very decent.
The rooms are clean and nicely decorated. The area we just love. We think its the most lively area in Amsterdam, between dozens of restaurants and many musea.
Highly recommended.

4 of us went to Amsterdam for a long weekend and found Bibies through the internet. We were SO pleased with the apartment and it was perfect for our weekend. There were two big bedrooms, a lounge/dining area and kitchen, absolutely perfect for 4 friends. The apartment is in a super location, near the Heineken factory, within walking distance of city centre or if you prefer not to walk, there is the tram stop not far away. Bibi had left us food for breakfast and the bread was just amazing, super fresh! There were maps, leaflets etc available for us and so we had lots of info to help with our weekend. Had a really great time and couldn't have asked for better accommodation. Thanks Bibi, we'll be back for sure!!! Rachel :)

Bibie's place is in the really great neighbourhood, De Pijp, and in a lovely tree-lined street minutes from trams 16 or 24, very close to the Rijksmuseum, round the corner from the Albert Cuyp market and walking distance from the canals and central Amsterdam. The street itself is brilliant - a wonderful wholefood delicatessen opposite, De Aanzet, a first-class vegetarian restaurant, De Waaghals, and a super-cool local cafe-bar-bistro called Quinto, not to mention a fun vintage clothes store are all on the doorstep. The apartment is well-equipped, Bibie is very helpful and the beds are very comfortable.

Just got back from a weekend in Amsterdam sataying at Bibies B&B. The location is fantastic, a short walk to the Museum Square (Van Gogh museum etc) and a few mins walk to the 16 and 24 trams which take you straight into the centre. The area (Pjip) is very cool with loads of nice bars nearby (head down to9 the Albert Cuyp martket) and a great bar/restaurant a few doors down called Cafe Quinto, which is where we picked the keys up when we arrived. We spent quite a bit of time there and recommend the Bitterballen (deepfried meatball things!). At the B&B, the rooms are basic but clean and the beds are comfy and the internet worked fine, as did the cable TV. The breakfast is v generous, ham/salami, cheese and plenty of bread in the fridge as well as Senseo coffee machine, with tons of refills. Kitchen was a bit tatty, to be honest, and could do with a bit of a refurb but everything seemed to work ok.
All in all, a great location at a v decent price, and perfect for a short stay.

The plusses:
----------------
- Fabulous location! Literally 1.5 short blocks from either the 16 or 24 tram; small but cute market literally across the street, right next to a fabulous vegetarian restaurant; lots of shops and restaurants around.

- 3 of the 4 of us found the beds to be quite comfortable, and slept well (or rather would have slept well - see below)

- The bedrooms are of a good size, with tall ceilings, giving a sense of spaciousness to the rooms.

- The kitchen and main room are adequate, and the main room (situated between the two bedrooms, and with no outside-facing windows) though dark, has a nice big table where it's nice to sit and eat / chat.

- The space overall, though a tad shabby, was clean, free of odors, and comfortable enough.

- Bibi is very friendly and outgoing, and was willing to accommodate us, though indicated that our requests seemed strange (see below). Things did work out well and she was accommodating but providing us 3 sets of keys instead of the initial 2 that were available, though our expectation was that 4 sets would be the norm for 4 people.

- Overall, this is a decent value, barring the caveats below - though I shudder to think what this would be like sharing the tiny kitchen/bathroom area with strangers - so definitely if you go here, get the whole place.

The Minuses:
-----------------
- The main requirement of a B&B is to provide a place for good sleep, and to meet expectations from what was advertised. Well, a couple of misses here. The main one being that 2 of the 4 nights we stayed, the upstairs neighbors had wall-shakingly loud parties, the second one lasting from 2:30am til past 7:30 when we left (banging on their door and asking them to turn in down did not yield any results). No sleep, needless to say.

Now, I know this isn't directly Bibi's fault, however her paper guestbook had already several comments about this, as does this website, and I would expect any business owner to either fix this issue or stop renting while it is unresolved. We had no way to get in touch with her (there is no phone in the apartment) short of walking down the block and banging on her door in the middle of the night, and no phone to call the police. Now, this is a big deal, as we only had a short time in Amsterdam, and spending miserable sleepless nights was not in the plans.

- Though things did end up working out fine for us, Bibi did mix up our arrival time, and it was somewhat complicated trying to connect and make plans with her. Luckily she was at home when we arrived (the arrangement is that you get to Amsterdam and take the tram to Bibi's own house, which is about a block away from the B&B). If she hadn't happened to be home when we arrived, we would have had to spend our first day lugging our luggage around with us.

- Similar issue in terms of paying before we left - it didn't turn out to be a problem for us as we were planning to have dinner in the neighborhood, but we had to go find Bibi and try to find a convenient time to connect. Had we hadz plans, she indicated she would be out later that evening, so we would once again have had to to arrange our short trip around the need to connect with her.

- Upon arrival, we expressed surprise that there were only 3, not the advertised 4 beds in the unit (the English version of the website had said each room had 2 beds, though this appears to now have been changed), and asked for keys for each of us. Bibi indicated surprise at both of these requests ("no one has ever asked for that before" - which I find truly odd as in reality it's very common for 4 friends traveling together to have separate beds and for each to have a set of keys - other B&Bs offer these things automatically). To be fair, she did provide a cot to be squeezed into one of the rooms, and one extra set of keys. But the process of having to wait for these and arrange our evening around reconnecting with Bibi to get they keys was annoying.

- One of the big attractions of the place was free internet. This simply did not work at all. We all tried to connect it, but it simply would not turn on, and Bibi seemed unconcerned when we mentioned it to her. Not cool.

- The bathroom is broken into two rooms - one with a toilet, and one with a shower and sink. Normally this would be a great arrangement, however here the shower wasn't in any way enclosed, so was just running onto the tiled floor - so everything got wet, and if you weren't the first person to take a shower, it got a little gross, and very wet throughout the little room.

Summary
------------
If you set your expectations accordingly - and if Bibi is able to fix the ridiculous upstairs neighbor issue - then this would be a reasonable place to crash for a few nights. Far from fancy, but comfortable enough and the location is great. Just be sure to have a flexible schedule and flexible attitude toward your schedule, and don't count on having internet access.

Room Tip: Rent the whole place - can't imagine sharing the small quarters and bathroom with strangers.

When we got to Amsterdam, BiBi was not ready for us, as she had her dates confused. That was OK as she dropped what she was doing and immediately cleaned the place for us. We went out exploring and she was done when we returned. As advertised, there was food in the kitchen for us to make our breakfast the next day, plus some left over. There is a food shop directly across the street as well. BiBi answered our questions about trams, etc., and said to come around if we needed anything.
There were 4 of us sharing the space, and since we knew each other, it was fine. People staying with others they don't know may find that awkward, but there are locks on each bedroom door. Parties would be sharing a bathroom in this case. I found the separate bathroom convenient for when someone else was occupying the shower/sink room. The garden was nice though we didn't use it.
We were advised to keep food contained because "we don't want the mice to come". However, one of my friends had chocolate in her backpack and the mice got it. Be prepared for that as well and keep food tidy.

The bad:
It was advertised that there was a computer with Internet access, but even with all 4 of us trying, we could not make it work. We asked BiBi to show us, and she just turned on the laptop and said it would connect. It didn't. I had my own laptop, and there was no place to enter the password she gave us, so we had no Internet. This was important as we were in town with other people and needed it to coordinate meeting places, etc.

Also, on our last night, the person above us in the building had a party so loud (including jumping up and down after we asked them to keep it down) that the walls shook. It lasted until 6AM. This is of course not BiBi's fault, but anyone wanting peace and quiet should know that this possibility exists.

Room Tip: If you can rent the whole space so as not to share with strangers, do it.
