“Bed fell apart when sitting onto it.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We checked in at 19 pm and went out directly. When we came back after midnight, the light in the bathroom did not work. I sat down on the bed and immediately the bed collapsed leaving the mattress on the floor. After reassembly I carefully sat down, but again the bed collapsed.
The cheap bed construction was poorly assembled and finally by shifting the construction a bit (and careful not to move to much at night) we managed to make it until morning without another collapse. The curtains were also quite poor, 10 hooks were missing on the left curtain.
The mattress was also cheap quality, with a rubber cover sheet. The TV set was quite good, so it was a strange balance in investments. For contrast, in the morning we enjoyed a good breakfast, and the staff from the hotel made the breakfast run smoothly.
The hotel is also not in the center of Alkmaar, but next to the railway station which is about 10 min walk to the center.

i travel to Alkmaar frequently, usually stay with my Aunt. However now she is in a nursing home I need to stay in a Hotel. I won't be staying in this one again. The room I had was tiny and cramped at the top of a flight of extremely steep stairs with a very tight turn into my room. I thought I was going to fall a couple of times, taking my luggage up was a nightmare. The room was very basic twin beds and a wardrobe, No dressing table or bedside table, had to use the spare bed for all my things. toilet and shower were tiny too, no towel rail or hairdrier. Towels were soft and clean though. The room was stifling hot even with the window and door open(the door wasn't meant to be opened.) The room was on view to all the neighbours and I had to keep the curtains shut for some privacy, there were not blinds or nets, the room was so small you couldn't avoid being in front of the window, There was no safety deposit box either. The week-end I was there the hotel lounge was shut Friday Saturday and Sunday nights. It was a holiday week-end and the hotel was fully booked, there were a lot of hotel guests milling about outside at night and couldn't believe the lounge was closed. Neither could I, there was no chance for a sit down and a chat to relax.
Good points are the staff are nice, the hotel lounge is lovely, The hotel is conveniently placed for transport links. All in all the room I was in was not wotrth the money. I don't know about the other rooms, But I think they need to up their game quite a bit before I would be back.

Room Tip: Don't know if there are any good rooms, Maybe if you get the one in the photo you'll be fine...

Nice place, well situated in an excellant location close to all amenities. Staff were lovely and accommodating, breakfast was lovely and very traditional. Problem.. Got two double rooms,,, in the attic, which was yes up two flights of stairs (bare in mind we had two kids one a crawling baby, so we wern't really comfortable at all). Take the kids out the picture i will rate it higher.

We were given the attic room and lugging cases up two flights of typically steep twisting Dutch stairs late at night gave us little joy. The room itself was worse: 3 single beds, terry towelling sheets, a bathroom my husband couldn't stand up in and curtains which did not adequately shut out the light. It was also in a noisy (albeit convenient) location. Unfortunately our room cost exactly the same as our friends who were given the 'royal suite!' The breakfast was good but we changed hotels the next day and paid the same amount to stay in a lovely business hotel around the corner.

Room Tip: The attic room is a shocker but the 'royal suite' seemed quite nice.

I have stayed at the Stad en Land on numerous and will continue to do so. The location of the hotel is excellent as it is opposite the bus and train stations.
The rooms are basic, pretty much what you would expect from a 3 star. Breakfast is the traditional cereals, bread, cold meats, cheese, coffee, etc, etc. Nothing special, but perfect to start your day.
The hotel is family run and it shows with how friendly they are with their guests.
The price is very reasonable and this hotel is perfect for solo, couples and families.

Taking the train directly from Schipol, and without walking more than 150 m in total, to get to my room in less than an hour is what I call convenient. This hotel is basic and inexpensive. Rooms in various shapes and sizes and some in adjacent buildings. Breakfast is continental: cereals, meats, cheese, toast, coffee/tea, etc. Location in Alkmaar is a short walk to the town centre - 10 minutes. I normally rent a bike at the rail station. As a solo traveller I just want is a clean bed and a quite room. I've stay here regularly when visiting Holland and it ticks all my boxes. Not suited to party animals and marginal for young families. WiFi was a bit spotty but access is available in the bar.

Hi.

We stayed 3 nights in this hotel with our kids. The family room we booked was located in the attic-floor of the Dutch-style building. So the family room actually consists of 2 rooms, which was nice arrangement. The hotel consists of several houses within a same block, the receprion is in the bar. Staircases to this family room were narrow and steep so no change to get e.g. baby buggies in. This might cause some challenges also to small children and people with disabilities. Luckily we had only our luggage. Room was clean and beds were ok.

Location of the city is good. If you want to experience Amsterdam, here is regular train service and the journey takes 40 minutes from hotel door to Amsterdam Centraal.

Tips:
-Amsterdam by train is cheap and fast
-Bergen am Zee is nice beach, oly 20 minutes drive
-Use the q-park at the train station for parking.

Prepare for:
-Steep and narrow staircases
-No airconditioning
-Hotel reception and breakfast is at Bar which is not 24-hours open
-The noise from the street and station may disturb your sleep
