Okay, this is a VERY basic hotel room. The pro: good price as Amsterdam is expensive unless you go hostel. It is convenient; near the train, bikes, center. You feel safe, depending on who's staying there. There is a safe: you pay a small amt for. The brkfast is 10E; but very adequate, self serve with fruit, cereal, sandwich items, eggs, (soft boiled-overdone as always everywhere); coffee (tea etc), yogurt, bacon/sausage (bacon swimming in it's own fat). I was pleased overall with the brkfst. The staff was very nice/friendly. the cons: The room is very basic, bathroom: miniscule but you can get the job done-just don't stretch your arms out. The room was NOT clean; and in overall disrepair. No hairdryer in room, maybe they would loan you one. No amenities, but there is a soap/shampoo dispenser. They are now working outside and the huge pile driver wakes you up at 7 or 8 am. (wkdays only) Doesn't matter which side you're on, you hear it. It was very hot in the room so we had to leave the window open; inviting more noise; but it was pretty quiet except for the construction. The temp outside was about 60 during the day, 50 at night. It was hard to stay comfortable. Actually, the beds were okay and firm enough, yet yielding. We asked & received a couple of extra pillows-nice. On our floor we had a few "doobie tokers" (LOL) so it was rather...fragrant. Great for young folks who want to save some Euros, and YES, they clearly advertise that the brkfst is not included on their website. You have to pay up-front-that was different. Guess they expected people wouldn't like the morning wake up call! Cheers, Vicky.

The Amstel Botel is a converted cruise ship drydocked right next to Centraal Station. For 89 euro per night, the city view is totally worth the price (but saving on the landview is okay too). Rooms & washrooms are clean and small, but cozy.

We didn't get breakfast included, and it was expensive & about average - you can have a comparable breakfast on Damrak for cheaper. Close to Red Light, shopping, tour bus/boat stops and a 5-minute walk
from Centraal Station.

Just returned from Amsterdam this morning, after a not so nice short break, at the so called 'Amstel Botel' hotel. We booked this hotel, as there weren't a whole pile of affordable accomodations available, and also, I liked the idea of staying on a boat hotel.

Upon arrival, I was very disappointed. There were guests hanging out of the windows of the hotel, which is situated on a very dirty canal, with rubbish flowing all around it. Inside the hotel door, you are greeted with the 'stink' of horrible, disgusting stale and fresh ciggerette smoke (& I am a smoker). The bar, is boarding the breakfast room. It is very small, and not exactly 'easy on the eye'.

The worst was yet to come - the bedroom:
This room smellt the most horenduous. Stale smoke, dirty walls and ceilings, load noises from outside and inside the hotel, made sleep impossible, and the bathroom was only a couple of feet long - literally!

My advice - DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Really bad service. We were told breakfast was included and then when we went down next morning we were asked to pay 10 Euro even though our booking was specifically for breakfast included, obviously we had to go and find something elsewhere. Bathroom was very dirty and the noise at night was terrible. At night we went into the bar and the staff looked like they needed a holiday a were definitely not friendly. My friend and I were hungry and it was approx 10.30 at night, spotting some sandwiches in the bar we paid for them and went to our room but proceeded to spit them out they tasted as if they were a week old.
This might be a budget hotel but I have been in many budget hotels and hostels and have never experienced such a bad place to stay in.......in other words don't say you weren't warned.
