I was a little disappointed, if I'm honest. The room was small and not particularly well equipped. The shower and toilet room was tiny - the sink overlaps the toilet pan and there's very little room to turn round in the shower. The carpet was threadbare, the ceiling was damaged and the tiling in the bathroom needed re-grouting. Well over-due for a make-over.
I saw nothing to merit the advert on the side of the boat which said "luxury rooms from €84". There weren't even any tea or coffee making facilities.
The Botel has moved from its original position and is now a 10-minute ferry ride up the river, so less than convenient for the night life. On the plus side, the ferries were free and run frequently. On the down side, if you miss one, it can be half an hour before the next one so you really need to plan your trip out. It's also not very convenient if you want to go back to get changed or if you forget to take something with you.
I must admit that I'd been told it had moved but it wasn't clear exactly where it had moved to. Google Maps still show it in its original position.
Considering I booked in January and paid £200 for two nights, I came away feeling ripped off. I wouldn't recommend staying at this hotel. I wouldn't go again.
The traveller photos on TripAdvisor.com are more indicative of the reality ... particularly the one called "the BotHell".
The Botel would have been better left on the canal. At the moment, the boat is on an estuary and there are many cruise ships, and cargo ships going by and the wash from those vessels make the botel rock all the time. Me and my boyfriend stayed at the botel from the end of july until 9th. august. It was very clean and the staff were helpful but it really could do with Tea and Coffee making machine in the room. It was awful waking up and not being able to have a cuppa. Breakfast was filling enough although mostly cold. The ferry was okay going to Central Station during the day but at night sometimes it was few and far between. The biggest hassle was having to make the trip into the city all the time and although the hotel was great, we wont be staying there again because of where it is and also, I was beginning to feel a little sea sickish the last two days because the boat never stopped moving.
Will never go back, and you should not go either. . The BOTEL moved to the north side of Amsterdam and is accessible by a ferry and should be a 2 star hotel, not a three. The rooms are way too small and the showers are made for elves. ! People come back at all times of the night drunk or stoned and it is hard to get a good night sleep. Their Website is misleading as well. Nothing at all to do around this boat at all! This is far from the center of Amsterdam. Dont be misled, go elsewhere! This is in an industrial part of the city, with nothing around to do at all.
We stayed at the Botel 8,9 June, 2008. We arrived at 1300 and had to wait another hour for check in. We did go to the nearby restaurant which had good food. We checked into room 227. The shower did not drain, the front desk person did not care, but did offer to switch us to 235. No offer of assistance, no apologies, no compensation, etc. The rooms are small, but that is not a problem. Most staterooms on ships are the same size. They had lovely warm comforters on the bed, but it was 25 degrees C, so a sheet would have been nice. No top sheet on bed, just huge comforter.
Then our confirmation stated breakfast included, but I did not have it printed out, silly me. They offered us breakfast at 10 euros per person, per night. Somehow, no breakfast is worth that much, especially since we were leaving too early the second day to even have had breakfast.
The ferry takes about 10 minutes to get to the Centraal station, so it is rather inconvenient. Prices in Amsterdam are outrageously expensive, but no more Botel. Oh yes, the Private Spice channel was interesting................
