“Excellent to relax ...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 29, 2012

We stayed at Carlton De Brug to have a weekend to relax. My mother has been there as wel and she recommend the hotel. In advance I send them an e-mail that we rather want a room far away from the elevators. They arranged it without any problem ... and yes, the hotel was almost full.

As we are sauna lovers, we had a great time at the Spa. It's a really nice place to relax. We also visited Eindhoven, which is very close. Honestly I have to say the rooms are a bit old but the beds are still comfortable ... they just don't have the looks you know. The bathroom was clean but nothing special. Breakfast was great with a lot of choice !

Having arrived at the hotel we were very pleased with the appearance. We were there on a tour with Shearings and this is where it all went wronge. In the morning, after breakfast,we returned to our room,to find that it had not been serviced. We were short of toilet paper, tissues, soap, and showering products.I called the reception, and these items were delivered to the room.Later,I went down and spoke to the chap on the reception. To my surprise he informed me that the staff had been told not to service the room ,unless we asked,as Shearings had not payed enough money for our stay.I stated that when I stay in a 4*hotel I do not expect 2*service.I was told that my complaint was with Shearings and not the hotel.
As luck had it we only had one more day to stay.Good tour very disappointed with the hotel.

Stayed here as part of a Shearings tour to the Bulbfields. When we arrived at 10 pm there was no evening meal provided - Shearings had not paid for one. Room comfy and clean, also bathroom, but this changed during the 3 nights we stayed there. Tea and coffee making facilities in room, but never replaced - Shearings had not paid for this but they were provided if you asked at reception. Towels never changed in bathroom nor the bins emptied. Toileteries not replaced. Shearings had not .....etc.
Meals a shambles, food laid out but platters not replenished. First morning meusli bowl empty, asked for it to be refilled, when it returned there were no bowls, asked for bowls, when they came there were spoons and so it went on.
Evening meals were the same, water on the table if you asked for it, never offered. Mousse again for 3 evenings. Food adequate, nothing special. Chicken undercooked on one evening, asked for it to be returned to the kitchen this was done but several customers not happy and so it went on for three returns. Gave up in the end. Staff cleared away tables but did not replenish empty vegetables, rice, meats etc. Tables not set out with cutlery and crockery for our party people searched out their own chairs etc. and set their own tables. Considerable disquiet amongst the guests.
On the final evening however what a difference, a coach party of German tourists arrived and suddenly everything changed, also breakfast the following morning. Instead of rolls and ham, we had sausage, bacon and scrambled egg, croissants, chocolate spread, preserves, etc. I can only assume their tour company had paid for these, but finally we were the beneficiaries. We felt poor relations at the hotel, things provided for the other coach party not for us.
This hotel is 2 hours away from the Bulbfields, an unnecessary distance. There is nowhere in the surrounding area to go, - nothing. I assume the cost of the hotel is less than one staying nearer the gardens.
Hotel management blamed Shearings for most of the complaints, I can't comment, but will write to them with my concerns.
Spoke to management about the lack of food and service and on our last day management came to see for themselves. Things did improve with a senior member of staff in the restaurant.

My family and I stayed in this hotel as part of a 5 day Dutch Bulbfields Trip. There were 3 people in our party and we shared 1 room with a large double bed and a camp bed. The camp bed sounds uncomfortable but was quite comfy. We had tea and coffee facililities but when we asked why they hadn't been replenished we were told that as a rule they do not provide them but as our tour group were arriving late in the evening as a courtesy they thought we would like beverages, now that was thoughtful. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The food in the restaurant was pricey but the bar food was excellent and nicely priced. Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast but you could eat as much as you wanted although they did not allow you to make extra to take for lunch. The hotel had a spa, indoor swimming pool and other sports facilities, pity we didnt have the chance to use them. BUT beware on Wednesdays and Fridays swimming costumes are not allowed, one couple were asked to leave as they were clothed !!! This hotel, its staff and facilities live upto its 4 star rating and we would use this hotel again.

We had a large room 318 with functional spacious bathroom. Staff lovely and helpful. Not enough time on our trip to use pool but looked lovely.
Big pillows and confortable beds. Some music at bar for entertainment would have been great in the evening. Breakfast simple but good bread and cut ham delicious.
A good map needed from the motorways.
Nice people. Quiet spot.

Room Tip: Those over the front of the hotel seemed larger. Quiet area anyway.

I stayed in this Hotel during a coach tour for 4 nights, April 2nd - 6th and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The room we stayed in (215) was roomy and clean, although no view but we were out most of the time so it didn't matter. The Sports facilities were amazing, although we didn't have time to use them. Our son and his girlfriend who came with us used the swimming pool and jacuzzi.....word of warning Wednesday and Friday evening is a naked swim night!! They were actually asked to leave because they were wearing swim wear! The sauna is always naked, so unless you are into that sort of thing you might not want to go there. Needless to say it caused us a giggle.
We asked our coach to drop us off in Eidenhoven on our way back from a trip and we had a very nice meal at De Koffer which is situated in an attractive location next to a windmill. Otherwise there's always a taxi, as I do agree the location is not central. Recommend the restaurant at the Hotel , which offered a la carte as well as a 'cook your own at the table'. This was fun, 6 meats plus all the french fries, vegetables and salad we could eat. It was very enjoyable. Others said their meals were very good too.
I didn't find my pillow very comfortable, which I should have mentioned to the Hotel but was too tired at the end of the day to bother. Keukenhoff Park is fabulous...flowers stunning and we loved Delft with it's wonderful cheese shop (free samples too). All in all a very good stay.

We stayed in this sportive hotel with 12 other friends. Sports, wellness, bowling and grill. We did it all and we had a ball. The bar normally closes at midnight, but the bartender did not make any problem to stay open a bit longer. Super Service!
