“Excellent business traveller hotel, with easy motorway access.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2012

This is a large, multi storey hotel. Stayed for one night, on business in nearby Dusseldorf (40 mins.). The bedroom was quite large on the sixth floor in my case. Nicely decorated, with a view of the motorway and leafy countryside. The reception staff were fast in booking one in, but very slow in checking one out. The breakfast room was very large, bright and busy. Good range of food on offer, including a cooked breakfast. I found things a little hard to find, and had to ask staff, where things were, twice. This was because it was arranged in a channel, or a straight line, with a narrow passage, like way. Overnight parking was free.

Room Tip: Ask for one not facing the motorway.

overall a pleasant clean hotel to stay in average prices for the area so value for money overall

Good restaurant with as expected good well prepared dishes
the breakfast buffet was better than most with a good selection from health eating to standard cooked breakfast available.

on the negative side there seemed to be little in the way of atmosphere or anything to make the hotel unique
transport links are good with the main motorway being very close and the hotle being situated close to the German border

Room Tip: if a light sleepr then ask for a room away from the motorway side of the hotel

i stay here quite often for work. the hotel is easy to find, easy to park. the staff are attentive and the lobby area, bar and restaurant are well kept and look quite modern. the breakfast buffett is good too. comprehensive array of choice with a hot choice too and fresh eggs cooked to order. free internet too.

now the things i dont like. firstly, the corridors and the rooms are dated and do not live up to what you would expect from the public areas i've already mentioned. second, i can't understand why there aren't any tea & coffee making facilities in the room. thirdly, a hotel like this would normally have a small gym and pool. this has neither. you can use a near by leisure centre, but you need a ticket from the reception, and some staff i have spoke to didn't even know about this facility, even though it is advertised in your room. overall, i will continue to stay here for my work trips, but the rooms will have to be refurbed soon to keep my business.

This hotel has very clean rooms, and a great restaurant. The breakfast buffet is very good. Although the hotel is situated just off the main highway, my room was facing the highway, and it did not interfere with my sleep. The windows must by very well insulated. The hotel is just a short drive to the train station, and Old Town.

Our first impressions were mixed, we had to wait for one of the reception staff to notice us before they broke off what they were doing and then a booking for one room for 2 nights had mysteriously changed into a booking for 2 rooms for 2 nights. Things improved in the way that the member of staff dealt with and resolved that issue. Our comfort room was clean, tidy and well appointed. The air conditioning was not the most efficient and was noisy but as the alternative was opening the window which was above a motorway, we put up with it. Lighting in the room could have been better but at the same time, it was good to have blackout curtains that cut out all motorway lights.. The breakfast buffet was comprehensive and nicely presented.
If we were in the area again, we would certainly use this hotel on a B & B basis.
Our 2 night package included dinner on one night. Choice was from a reduced menu but we found it had sufficient items for us. The food was OK but service was slow. This is the main problem of eating in the hotel's restaurant. The hotel accommodates coach tours and conventions etc. These groups seem to get preference and individual guests and couples are fitted in arround the larger groups. Also the presence of large groups increases the noise level in the room. Despite this, we decided to eat in the hotel restaurant on the second evening because we had enjoyed a long day at Floriade and did not want to go into Venlo in search of dinner. The room was noisier than it had been on the first evening and we and a number of other couples were crammed into a row of tables for 2 that were so close together that even one of the waiting staff complained that she was unable to serve meals properly. My wife had to stop eating while tables to the side of us were served and normal conversation was impossible. For some reason, despite the dining room being busier, there were fewer staff on duty so service was extreemly slow. Also orders were not taken correctly- in our row, three tables (including ours) were given the wrong food or drinks but as we had waited 25 minutes for the first course, we took what we were given, besides, the waitress seemed totally unconcerned. Other issues with the meal were the standard of the food which was not as good as the firsr night and the use of tinned/frozen vegetables in a hotel in the middle of one of the biggest vegetable growing regions of Europe at a time when Floriade was extolling the benefits of fresh vegetables! For these reasons, we cannot recommend this hotel as a place to eat at.

This is a lovely Hotel with a great restaurant and friendly welcoming staff. Its a 45min walk into Venlo town centre, but if you hire a bike you'll be there in no time at all.

Two minor points let the hotel down:-

1. Air conditioning seemed to be broken. We arrived during a warm humid spell. The aircon in the bedrooms blew out air, but not conditioned or cooled air.

2. Our double bed was just two twins knocked together.

Despite these two minor points I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: There is a newer extension to this hotel. Perhaps the rooms there have working a/c
