We stayed at the Chateau de Raay in Baarlo for 2 nights in April 07. Booked suite via internet site at 170Euros a night.
The Chateau is tucked away at the edge of a very small town, 10km from Venlo and 22km from the small town of Arcen (castle gardens)
The hotels rooms are spread over a number of lovely historic buildings that are connected by an airy winter garden in which the restaurant is located. There also appeared to be a modern annex with rooms.
Upon arriving they apologized that the only suite available was the bridal suite. Tucked away above the function room in a small building with no other rooms, we found a spacious, cozy room with a decadently comfortable bed and a bathroom with tub. Minibar, kettle, safe, dvd/cd player available.
The breakfast buffet had a large variety high quality products (with the exception of the low quality cold meats). We enjoyed dinner twice (3 courses 32,50) – good quality and quite well prepared. Town itself does not seem to offer many dinner alternatives.
Throughout our stay all staff members were not only helpful and efficient but also very friendly – nothing but praise.
The stay was so pleasant that even the few glitches in service did not detract from our enjoyment but it was striking that most of our wineglasses were dirty (remnants of orange juice etc). Also choosing a wine was not easy as they were either not available or not cooled.
The lush grounds, buildings, decor and friendly service made for a lovely stay!
