“Relaxing time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012

We visited this exceptional hotel on a spring break. From our greeting at reception to our final goodbye, everything was lovely. The suites are enormous with large sitting area and the biggest bathroom you can imagine. The breakfasts were great with plenty of choice of cold dishes and bacon and eggs if required. We ate in the restaurant 3 times, which serves lovely dutch food with lots of sweet white asparagus.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2012

They used only to have a restaurant and multiple conference rooms, located at the banks of the river Maas at the outskirts of Nijmegen (Ool); in 2002 they build a hotel about 70 yards from the restaurant housing about 24 very roomy, nice , clean suites including a kitchenette, on two floors with an elevator, and a living room with a billiard table, board games, a piano and a full kitchen next to it. Free private unguarded open parking in front, and when the weather is warmer a private "beach" at the riverside is opened.
It takes about 15 minutes to drive through a residential area to reach the town center, the hotel location is rather isolated, lots of people walk their dogs and do their running exercise there..
Since the very nice breakfast - included in the price - is served in the restaurant, you need to cross the 70 yards or so from the apartment to the restaurant in the open air, so will need a coat if the weather is cold.
As for dinner, the staff is courteous but the service is rather slow, the food OK but not exceptional, prices are OK too.

Stayed here, whilst looking for a flat, loved it & ended up "living" there instead!
I had a suite with lounge, dining area with kitchenette & very large bedroom.
Always clean - staff very courteous & helpful - food was very good also. I didn't eat from the a la carte, but everything I had was well cooked & tasty - what more can you ask. Great breakfasts every morning & they'll make you pretty much any style of eggs you want.
This really is home from home, Jan & his team make you very welcome.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2011

Booked this for a one night sleep for a city trip to Roermond, very satisfied with the choice. Very friendly and helpful staff welcoming you to the hotel and gave a quick tour of the hotel and the facilities.

The room, a junior suite, was a very spacious room, with a sleeping area and a living area with a fridge and microwave. Water cooker and coffee machine, along with coffee and tea, were also provided. Loved the big bathroom: big shower and a bath that fits 2 persons. Overall a lovely experience.

Only negative preventing it from scoring 5 out of 5 is the design: the room has quite an old style, bathroom looks more modern. A refurbish of the rooms would make it perfect.

Very nice location by a lake (unfortunately you do not see the lake from the window, but the surroundings are nice too). I visited in autumn, so colors were beautiful.
The reception service was very helpful and polite.
The room was really big and well-equipped.
I had dinners in the hotel restaurant what were very delicious.
Internet and parking are free.
You have to go outside when going to the reception or to the restaurant what can be disturbing in rain.
Enterior is nice.
Would go again.

This is a super-wonderful hotel in rural area at lakes.
It is 10 km from Roermond, difficult to reach by public transport (bus 19 ), but taxi 15 Euro from station. Situated in Ool (Herten) at one of the Maaslakes. Hotel building 80 meters from reception/restaurant. Big rooms (40 m2) with big bathroom with bath and separate shower, soft bed, seating corner with table and 2-seater and 1-seater, 26 inch flatscreen TV that can move towards bed or sitting area above a table, fridge with freezing part, microwave. Free coffee, tea and soup. Low minibar prices and there's space for own things. Safe inside cupboard, enough closet space, bathrobes present and tourist info material. BBC 1 and 2 on TV and many Dutch/Belgian channels with films in original language. no Pay-TV channel (yet).
Very quiet rooms, only birdsong in garden, also no noise from inside. Junior suites at side of the building with balcony or small terrace. At the back of building are the garden suites which are about equal but with garden view, terrace or balcony. some garden chairs, no pool.
Friendly personell, wonderful breakfast with eggs made to order, salmon, Cava, good bread, special jams, etc. Dutch breakfast, not British. One can sit outside in nice weather. 2 restaurants, one very stylish, other more informal but same menu.
Bicycle hire. Nice area for cycling, walking. Nice walks around the lakes, a secluded nudist area along one of them but no swimming there. Some swimming possible in these lakes. Wild cattle all around.
Reception/restaurant building has a nice modern bar, stylish library/smoking room with various sort of books and magazines to borrow but little in English, nearly all Dutch. Pets allowed (7,50 Euro). Hotel building has also a recreation room. One enters that building with your room keycard. Reception often not manned.
For Dutch readers: I booked a 3=2 offer at Bookit.
No swimming pool but in Roermond, Horn and Born are spas and a swimming pool and fitness is 1 km from hotel (Herteheym), day cards for 12,50 Euro at reception, NOT at that fitness centre as normally only for subsciptions. In front of hotel is a private area at lake just for guests, but no beach there, but a bit further away. Lot of free parking space at hotel building.
Highly recommended, friendly hotel.

Room Tip: Garden suites are best, at the back

5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2010

I have stayed at this hotel very frequently due to business obligations in Roermond. This hotel is a real find, family owned and run, with an exceptional personal service and touch. The owners are extremely service focused and continously upgrade the already excellent public areas, most recently with the addition of a great wine bar, which is modern but very cosy. I have unfortunately never had the chance to try the restaurant, but have seen it to be busy on many occassions, and the menu always is very tempting, with local fare as a highlight through the seasons.
The hotel is a 10 minute drive away from the centre of Roermond, beautifully situated behind a dike, offering immediate access for lovely country walks or bicycle rides, which are available for hire from the hotel.
The real highlight are the suites - exceptionally spacious, very well thought out to offer maximum comfort, a small pantry with fridge and microwave, a terrace or balcony to relax on, TV with international channels, CD/Radio player, mini bar, tea /coffee making facilities. The bathrooms are certainly a highlight, you won´t find that kind of space in some of the presidential suites of hotels !! All have a free-standing shower, tub, in almost all cases double sinks, and could easily fit another tub..
Breakfast has all the necessary goodies, and you can treat yourself to fried eggs and bacon on top. There is a lovely terrace to enjoy breakfast on during warm weather.
My travels through Holland are always on the hectic side, travelling from one end of the country to the other, but knowing that the Oolderhof is waiting at the end of the journey is always a comforting thought.
