“The "budget" rooms are poor value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

The place itself is decorated stylishly, and in accordance with the overall upscale feel of Maastricht. WiFi was included and worked well. Location is not the greatest--but Maastricht is small enough that if you don't mind walking you should be alright.

The price of a standard double room was €120 for bed and breakfast. Their "budget double" room was €90, which we booked, and they tried to up-sell by asking us if we wanted to eat breakfast at €15pp. For two people sharing, I figured the budget double was a double room without breakfast, given that their breakfast is priced at €30 for two (€120 - €30 = €90, right?).

The budget room is in fact not just a double room without breakfast. It is a much smaller room, and has no frills--no toiletries, etc.

They really need to price the budget rooms lower to reflect their being lesser rooms; as it is, they are double-penalizing customers for selecting the budget room. You get a smaller room plus no breakfast at an inflated rate. The room is clearly not worth €90. Then they add on the tax, so in the end you are paying a lot for not much...

Anyone who wants breakfast and pays the €15pp is especially getting shafted, since they are paying the same rate as normal but getting a downgraded room.

It is also worth mentioning the breakfast is a bad value at €15pp for a continental...there is a really high end bakery down the road called Le Salonard. You can buy a bunch of gorgeous pastries, breads, cheeses, and coffee for the family and have a great spread for less than €15 total.

When we checked in, they said that because we were not eating breakfast we would have to pay up front, as "we might not see you again." It felt like a dig.

So what do you get for €90? Not much. It's a very nice room, but they really make you feel like you are in the ghetto of the guesthouse. No soap and shampoo in the shower. No toiletries at all, save for one and exactly one disk of hand soap. There was nowhere to unpack, and our clothes were on the floor. Next time I would stay elsewhere.

We arrived mid-afternoon and were given coffee immediately on arrival, the owner was very helpful and friendly the room was spacious and clean, in the morning there was a very good continental breakfast available.the b&b is well situated for exploring the old town, one word of warning they do not take credit cards it could have been a embarrassing situation, i would definitely stay again

An excellent family run B & B, close to the centre and within walking distance of the railway station. There's plenty of choice for the buffet breakfast which served in a pleasant, stylish room. The family/staff are very attentive and welcoming. Bedrooms are a mixture of traditional and modern furnishings with clean, well appointed bathrooms. Rooms above ground level are reached by stairs only which are quite steep but manageable.

This is a Chambres D'Hote aka B&B establishment in the old town area of Maastricht. It is in an historic building that has recently been refurbished. My room had a very nice new bathroom and was very comfortable. However, this is a B&B so no phones in rooms. The breakfast was continental and was fine if not outstanding. One warning is that this old house is tall and narrow and the stairs are very steep.
