“Impersonal business hotel”

This a modern hotel on the opposite side of the river from the old town. It was satisfactory but expensive for what was on offer. We had booked a standard room through an online agency and asked for a river view. We were told at reception that only superior rooms had river views . We were offerred breakfast at 25 euros per person per day, very expensive compared with some of the lovely nearby cafes. The television was an old cathode ray tv that needed updating. There are a very limited number of channels available. Internet wi-fi access was available at 10 euros per day, again very expensive. The place is mainly aimed at the business and small conference market and the reception staff although efficient lack the personal touch.

Room Tip: If you want a river view a go for something other than a standard room.

Rooms not in condition. Front desk staff should be trained once more.
Breakfast view is excellent but food wise not at all good rate as below average.
So, in short try another hotel.

they checked me in to the wrong room and basically through a parking ticket at me, made it clear it was EUR 22 and you could only park once, no in and out

internet was EUR17 a day

funny that they were promoting movies for sale and the TV was around 20 years old, a cathode ray tube model

the pillowcases and sheets were the cheapest blend

this hotel is a poor value despite being in a decent location

My wife and I stayed at the Crown Plaza hotel for four days in April when we were in town visiting my daughter who was attending university there. We were very disappointed in the place. It is a boring American-style business hotel with no character where everything is ala carte. On the plus side, the rooms were nice. They were furnished with a large king sized bed with four pillows and a very nice comforter. The room had a minibar with a refrigerator and a tea pot with instant coffee packets. The bathroom was good sized and there were 3 sets of towels. Housekeeping was good; the room was always clean. The hotel is right on the Maas River, which our room faced, and that was nice watching the boats ply the river and large canal cruise ships dock across the way. On the negative side, the front desk crew was often misinformed about where to purchase necessities or how to rent a car, and they were totally clueless about the public transport network, for example not knowing where to catch the bus even. (To be honest, after being fed up and finally complaining, the front desk manager was accommodating and apologetic.) More annoyingly, everything was extra: no business center and no internet access for the use of guests; WiFi in the rooms cost an additional 18 euros per day; no workout room unless you wanted to pay 13 euros per person per day to go several blocks to a local gym with with they were associated. The TV was a small non-high def TV and it was rather small. Also, while Maastricht is compact, the Crown Plaza is across the river from everything in Maastrict except for the train station, so it was a hike over one of two footbridges to get to any of the sights in the City.

I travel constantly and have a very hard time with the 3, 4, 5 start ratings in European hotels. I find that 9 times out of 10, a hotel claiming to be 4 star is really a 3 star, etc. etc. I am pleased to inform you that this hotel is actually a 4+ star hotel.

Rooms: Well appointed, modern and luxurious.

Bed: King, four+ star comfort, four star pillows, etc.

Room Service: Excellent

Lobby Service: Prompt, friendly and very helpful service, as any 4 star hotel should have.

Overall hotel design and comfort: 4+ stars, excellent.

Location: Best location in Maastricht, right on the river with easy access to both historic districts.

Breakfast: Surprisingly excellent. Top quality choices, great selection, fantastic riverfront view, good coffee, great way to start the day.

I travel to Maastricht regularly on business and will always book at this hotel. I would recommend it for business travel, romantic travel, or any travel requiring first class service and comfort. Thank you to the staff at the Crowne Plaze Maastricht, I look forward to booking with you again soon.

Room Tip: I have not slept in a riverfront room, but the rooms at the back of the hotel are fine. If I travel...

We choose this hotel for its good location and relatively good price for a short citytrip. The services provided by the hotel are truly 4 star, except for the breakfast and the parking which are VERY pricey (26 euros per person for a not so spectacular breakfast, hm..... and 22 euros per night for the car).
The hotel has its own parking area (to the left from the main entrance, accross the small square, but before entering the parking you should check in and ask for an entry ticket), and then there is a dedicated entrance to the hotel right from the parking place. The front desk staff was quick and very friendly and in fact we could occupy the room before 14.00 hrs.
The room was indeed a bit dated, but spacious and well maintained. Maybe the minibar could be stuffed with some more drinks. The bathroom was spacious and provided nice amenities. Also, bathrobe, ironing set, water heater and a dryer were available in the room.
The bed was OK, although some would find it a bit too soft; various pillows were also available.

We had a drink in the bar, service was quick and friendly, prices were also OK. A good thing about this hotel is that it is just about 10-20 mins easy walk from the centre of the town (the main square) right accross the river - a very nice stroll before/after dinner.

The room and especially the public places within the hotel resonate a bit of the Eighties feeling and style, maybe a facelift would help.

In general, I would recommend this hotel as it is on a very good standard, but at the same time it should re-think its policy about breakfast and parking pricing.

Pro's:
Hotel is in a great, central location, right on the river, walking distance from the train station.
Newer rooms (at least the room we were in was new) are well appointed and comfortable, though certainly not large by any standards (EU or US).
Furnishings were comfortable and clean.

Con's:
Hotel staff is slow with everything.
At check out, we were charged a 5 euro per person per day "tax." We were using points for our stay, so this was a surprise - how do you charge a tax on something with a zero value? We were unable to get this charge turned around, and it left us with a negative impression.
There is no club lounge, for regular travelers who have come to expect this perk.
There aren't any computers you can use without paying - again, maybe regular travelers or IHG Platinum members such as myself have just come to expect these types of bonuses.
Everything in the hotel is pretty expensive, though this is possibly just the standard in Maastricht.

Room Tip: Rumor has it that there are rooms facing the river - but we had one facing a building. This was Ok...
