Chambres d'hotes la Cloche is located in an ancient historic building behind a door you might easily miss. The location is ideal, close to the main shopping area, restaurants and historic places of interest. To check in and get your key you must first go to Café la Cloche around the corner in the main square. You let yourself into the room and you won't find staff on site, although there is daily cleaning and I found nothing lacking. My room (a deluxe double) was spacious and bright. It felt very private and I was barely aware of others in the building. As it faced the back of the building, it was also extremely quiet, although I doubt if noise is an issue in any of the rooms. The bathroom was nothing special and had a shower with a circular shower curtain, but was clean and equipped with a hair dryer. There is no elevator and the curved staircase (take note of the lovely ancient timbers) might pose a challenge if you are lugging large heavy bags. The room was equipped with a kettle and teas and instant coffee, which for me was a necessity, as breakfast is not served until 9:00. I travel with a French press and my own coffee so was very grateful for the kettle and I wonder why most European hotels do not provide one. I did not mind at all that breakfast was served in the nearby café rather than in the chambres d'hotes. It was a very nice breakfast and service was friendly. With breakfast included in the room price, I thought this was exceptionally good value for Maastricht, which is a fairly expensive city.
