Don't expect this to be a night club rave - it isn't that sort of bar! However, it was voted as the number one bar in the Netherlands in 2012! It is more likely to suit the 'ladies who lunch' set, and then business people who like to have a glass and a bite on the way home from work. We went mid afternoon on a Tuesday to get something to eat before our journey home, so the one guy serving was hardly pushed. However, as we left towards four, another waiter came in to serve, and from the sawdust on the floor, it looked as it this bar does get exceedingly busy as people leave work. Basically between 11 and 5 they serve lunch type dishes- pate, soup, local LImburg stews, etc, washed down with wines from chalkboards on the walls, or mainly beers from the company Brand, which I believe is Dutch. The waiters will also recommend other drinks to go with your meal, but we did not test them out! After five, until close at 9 or 10 (yes, that early!), they serve drinks and borrell (Dutch finger snacks). Since the cafe will only seat about 20 or 30, I guess trying to do other sorts of meals would be impossible! Service was attentive during our visit. A very old fashioned type of bar which does not look like it has changed much in the last 80 years or so, so worth the experience! The coffee is outstanding, roasted daily to a special recipe by the Blanche Dael coffee shop next door.
