La Bergere is a lovely, Mondrian-design-inspired hotel located within walking distance of virtually everything in Maastricht. The train station is only 1 block away, while the center of town and main shopping district is just over the river a few minutes away by foot.
The hotel itself is located in a beautiful old 19th C. building which is traditional on the outside, but extremely 21st C.
modern/sophisticated on the inside. The entrance is unobtrusive - watch for it, or you will miss it!
The lobby area is pleasant with decor shifting regularly. The large "library/eating" area offers comfy chairs for relaxing and chatting with friends, reasonably priced drinks, and free access to e-mail.
The rooms (we stayed - by choice - in 3 different ones over the course of 2 weeks) were cooly modern with sleek furniture, comfortable beds, and large, beautiful bathrooms.
The morning breakfast was typical - a buffet of excellent cheeses, cold cuts, pastries, yogurt, etc. Service was very friendly and you never felt rushed.
Overall, this is one of the best hotels we've stayed in - particularly for the price. We plan to return to La Bergere next time we are in Maastricht.
