“Great Hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

I stayed at Mercure for about 2 days back in January. It was 100% money worthy:)
Clean beds, friendly people and good prices.
If I ever need to stay in a hotel in Groningen (although I don't know, as Groningen is my hometown), Mercure it will be for sure!

This is a fine hotel. Modern, clean, comfortable for its category. I would stay again. The only real downside is that it is a bit far from the city center (you would not walk them), so you need a taxi.

Dear guest,

Thank you very much for your review. With public transport the city centre is only 10 minutes away, maybe a good option for your next visit to Groningen.

Kind regards,

I stayed at the Mercure on a recent business trip.. The hotel itself is very stylish.. The staff are very welcoming and helpful, The rooms are very modern and clean with free wifi. Food in the restaurant is very tasty as well.. The hotel is in an ideal location very close to the motorway connections.. I would recommend anyone to stay at this hotel.

Mercure enjoys fresh, modern decor which looks clean and light. I liked especially the velvet covered chairs in cheerful colours in the room. The bed was a bit of a disappointment, too hard, but certainly large and the pillows were comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean but the towels were rather thin, you would expect a bit higher quality in a four star hotel
The hotel is easily accessible from the main road and is very close to the Martini Plaza theatre. . You have to pay for the parking, but it's not expensive and the car is right in front of the building. We walked to town comfortably, but it's not centric, if you don't like walking, think of a cab or a bus, there is a bus stop a short walk away.

Service: not outstanding, the make receptionist was very official and a bit conceited, should relax a bit or he makes the place feel stiff and cold.

But generally the hotel makes a good choice and good value for price, a safe, reliable choice for a weekend in town or some business.

Nice hotel - typical Mercure standard. NOT close to anything unless you are there for business. It's a hike from the train station, then further to the old town. But the room itself was comfortable and clean.

Pluses:
Comfy bed
Cushy comforters
Clean
Towels just ok
Pillows good
Spacious room
Large desk
Empty refrigerator - good for buying your own things
Hot pot with coffee tea and hot chocolate options
Ample closet space
Good hair dryer
Magnifying mirror (light was broken)
Full length mirror

Minuses:
Very bad lighting
Couldn't turn on TV as remote was not working and the controls on the tv were blocked
Shower head

Chain hotel, good location for visiting the city of Groningen or a venue in the Martiniplaza. 15-20 minutes walk from the city centre and/or main railway station. Public transport options aren't so good. This hotel is very easy to reach by car.
I had a room for one, for one night. Average standard room, no bath, empty fridge you can fill it yourself. I didn't have breakfast because I left very early, the wake up call was right on time. Checking out was no problem, free Wi-Fi and cheap! That's why I gave it four stars, I rated three before typing but this is better.
