We have just stayed here for 9 nights and everything was pretty much as you would expect from a hotel of this class. The surrounding views, front and back aren't good though. We didn't have breakfast which we thought was expensive. There are plenty of cafes close by for that. The location is very good.

I have stayed at this hotel twice and both times the rooms and service have been very nice.

For my last stay we booked a triple room which is really just a double room that you pay 12 euros extra for. The room has two "double" beds although they are quite narrow for two adults. There was enough room though for all our luggage at least.

It is a nice touch that there is a free coffee / tea machine on each floor and at least five computer with free internet access in the lobby. My sister used the "gym" on the basement level which is about as small a closet but does have a couple of new cardio machines and tanning bed (good if you want to get over all that rain and greyness of Dutch winters!)

The location is excellent, you can walk to all the restaurants and pubs. Groningen was even voted the best "Town Center" in all of the Netherlands. Go out on a Thursday night to see why. It is great city to see the "real" Netherlands if you want more than just Amsterdam.

It should be noted that this is no longer a Best Western Hotel so don't look for it on their website.

Overall this is good value for the money and I would definitely stay there again.

Stayed at this hotel a few times overnight. Good standard, comfortable, clean hotel with good buffet style breakfast, with bacon, eggs etc available. 4 or 5 PCs on ground floor for free internet access. Some traffic and late night bar leaving noise if you get a room at the front of the hotel. Rear is quieter but not very picturesque views. Plenty of eating out places within short walk but many seem to close quite early (2200hrs). About 6 euro taxi ride from railway station and 25 euro from airport. Canal trip worthwhile sampling if you have time, though commentary only in Dutch and German. Interesting old town, bit like a scaled down Amsterdam.

Modern, even trendy hotel in a good price range.
Free coffee/tea machines on every floor.
Corner with free internet.
Very comfortable in the centre of Groningen.
Casino just across the street!

So far so good, but:
The rooms have no air conditioning/ventilation and only a narrow window (not sufficient on hot summer days).

If you come with a car you must take into consideration 20 Euro for parking per day. (14 if you reserve a place in the hotel's parking).

The good location comes with a price tab... in addition to an occasional traffic noise, like a bus or a truck passing by (usualy early in the morning) , it can at times be noisy late in the evening since the hotel is located just above pubs, and as you can imagine its not always possible to control the noise level of the people leaving them. (The higher floors are better)

Family rooms are supplied with 2 double beds (not very wide ones, about 140cm), with one blanket each, that can be a problem when 2 children are to share not only the bed but also the blanket (asking for an extra blanket got us only an extra bed cover !?!)

To conclude: try to get a room in one of the higher floors, less noise and more wind ;-)
