“Impressive place at great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2015

Beautiful place with the grandeur of the past still visible. Very helpful staff, spacious room, and good breakfast. (Only one minor detail to complain about: why do so many good hotels have these crappy ironing machines?)

From the outside, this hotel looks splendid, a true palace with a rich jistory, which is proudly displayed throughout the whole building. From the inside, it needs some work.

We had room 18 on the second floor which have the look a bit like attics. Parts of the wall have no paint on them, parts of the rug are missing in the corners. There is some orange mould in the corners of the bathroom. There is not enough light as the two window you have are very small.

On the other hand, the dining room and lounge are awe inspiring, filled with antique furniture and real historical paintings of the stadhouders that used to rule this town. It all feels very royal here.

The location is perfect, it is in the heart of the centre, you can get anywhere from here on foot.

Do not order any drinks in the hotel though, as they are expensive and you get a tiny bit. I ordered fresh jus d'orange and got a small wine glass with packaged orange juice.

The hotel layout was a bit confusing, but the rooms were wonderful. Very spacious and comfortable. It was also a perfect location for exploring Leeuwarden. Everything was walkable and the town is so charming!

The location is outstanding for enjoying Leeuwarden. The common areas and landscaping at the back are wonderful with great sitting areas. The rooms are somewhat dated but spacious and clean.
Breakfast was yummy and served in the cheerful and airy breakfast room. This is an elegant place we will certainly return to on our next visit to the area.

Stayed for one night, beautiful historic building in fabulous location, check in service was excellent...they're the plus points....we walked into this stunning building after efficient polite check in...got to our room.....basic with a mismatch of uncomfortable furniture....felt like it was there to fill the room, room was very hot , opened a window sooo noisy to point I jumped a few times... Bathroom mirror i couldn't see into just top of my head, windows look out onto hallway so people walking past can see into your room, so blinds down made room dark, no mini bar and stains on the cushions, although bedroom was clean......overall I know that this listed building certain things can't be changed but filling these rooms with mismatched furniture made me sad.....this could be a little diamond if the owners did it some justice.....we stayed 2days the next night we stayed in post plaza..........sorry ....very disappointed

Back in Leeuwarden and stopped at the Fletcher again. Different room and I'm afraid very tired and basic. Room at the front overlooking the square, tiny, narrow shower room with dodgy soap dispenser and shower curtain with little in the way of an extractor, so quite damp and steamy. Bedroom had grotty furnishings, no mini bar, tea/coffee tray. Nylon carpet and drab chipped furnishings. Breakfast good but overlooked untidy gardens and dirty windows. Very disappointed and needs a massive update - such a shame it has deteriorated so much. Will stay in B&B next time as friends had some super deals in lovely houses.

We stayed in the Anna van Hannover Royal suite which was very spacious with lounge, bedroom with four poster bed and bathroom with a jacuzzi and a separate toilet. The room also had a large balcony overlooking the town square. The room's decoration is a bit tired and is in need of updating. The jacuzzi was nice once we worked out how to get it going!
Breakfast was very nice with a good choice. Staff were helpful and efficient.
There is not very much car parking at the hotel, which is expensive but very convenient, so best to check in early if you want a space. There is however a public car park close by.
