“Peaceful part of the Peaks”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

We have since visited this park again as we enjoyed the first visit so much (camping). Reading through some of the recent reviews, some negative points seem to be solely down to personal preference of the camping experience, particularly comments such as the park being quite remote, very little phone reception and TV reception. We didn't mind any of these issues as we wanted to get away from it all and Longnor Wood certainly gave us this. John and the other staff are great and extremely helpful at all times. The atmosphere was laid back and we made some friends on the last occasion. The amenities are very good, especially the little things such as freezer for cool box ice packs and the microwave. Showers were always clean although make sure you take a torch for night time visits as the route is quite dark. The camping field has got a slight slope but nothing too much of a problem. There is a wood and field/meadow with fantastic views where you can take dogs for exercise. As long as you don't mind the curfew and being respectful of others after a certain point in the evening, this is a great campsite to visit. Only negative I can think of would be that you are limited on walks directly from the site and would probably need to drive a bit further afield. We are going again in Sept and highly recommend this site to others who want a peaceful getaway site.

We stayed at Longnor wood in August 2013, in the middle of nowhere,no mobile signal at all, very poor site lighting during dark hours, television reception very poor, there are some television points around the pitches but you may need 40metres of coax cable to reach your van, if you walk back from shower block at night and it has rained you will probably get your feet wet in the holes on the scruffy laid track leading to the pitches, the walk to longnor village is about 1 1/2 miles down the main road diving into the hedge everytime a vehicle was coming, if you are on Vodafone the nearest signal is Buxton 6 miles away. Tranquils worst site, wont be returning.

We stayed at Longnor Wood in a tent for a few nights in August. The site is well run and the owners / wardens incredibly helpful, unfortunately there were some negative points which took the shine off our stay.

+ Great helpful staff
+ Rabbits everywhere! A plus point for us but maybe negative for others
+ Amenities good and generally clean
+ Small shop on site for all of the useful bits you may have forgotten, also fresh milk, bacon etc
+ Discount for Chatsworth
+ Ideal location for visiting Derbyshire
+ Lovely view

- Camping field is sloped
- Pitches at this time of year in quite poor condition and muddy when packing up, even after good weather.... don't seem to be rotated
- Pitches too close to each other, the couple next to us pitched their tent where our car would have been parked whilst we were out.... Then complained and asked us to be quiet, BEFORE curfew, even though we weren't making much noise!
- It seems to be on a direct flight path, after a while you get used to the aircraft noise!

We had a good stay, aside from the couple next to us (no fault of the park) but due to the sloped pitch and close proximity of other tents we will not return. The caravan pitches looked much better spaced.

We have just come back from a four night break. We stayed in a lodge with a hot tub which was lovely and clean and had everything you needed. The staff where very helful. The only slightly negative thing about it was the lodges where quite close together.

Had a lovely time. Couldn't fault the staff very helpful, mainly when I had a problem with my car and left a day early. The lodge lived up to everything in the brochure and after a very hard year it was perfect. We had a lodge with a hot stuff, which made the holiday.
If you love shopping Trafford centre is an hour away. If your looking for a proper supermarket we went to sainsburys in Leek.

I think on a personal level for me location was not best for a person who loves the fast life, but my mother who I went with loved it.

Stayed for a 2-night weekend camping in our tent. Easy to find from Longnor village following the good old brown tourist board signs. On arrival (about half seven on Friday night) reception was unmanned but rang the bell and Debbie turned up within a few moments to book us in with a very warm welcome. John showed us to our pitch and explained the lie of the land.

Pitches are spacious and fairly level with hard standing where necessary, plenty of water points available. Toilet blocks were well maintained, clean and showers were free. There are free shaver points in the gents and hair dryer in the ladies. In the pot wash area behind pitch 17 (where we were) there is a freezer for your ice packs which is also free to use; other sites have charged a couple of quid per pack per night before, this service was a really nice touch.

In addition the site shop, unlike most others, is very reasonably priced, with a decent variety of products available.

Despite the variable weather we had a great weekend and couldn't find fault with the site. Highly recommended and we'll definitely be back.

One of the best caravan/campsites we have stayed in this year. Ideal for motorhomes, caravans and tents. Very well kept and pretty site. Staff really helpful. Great area for walking. Lovely walk across fields to Longnor village. FANTASTIC dog walking area and woods within 2 yards of campsite. And rabbit watching galore! Will definitely return here.
