Stayed in the Cruck'd Barn and ate at the Oak - beautiful standard of renovation and all mod cons. Food and atmosphere in the Oak were fantastic; well worth booking ahead to secure a table.

We stayed here two nights for a stag weekend. The bunk barn, although 'no frills' was clean, well maintained and was kept very warm all through the night (it was a snowy Feb weekend, so appreciated). The pub had everything we needed, a tucked away games room with pool table and CD player (with CDs), the staff were friendly and helpfull and the beer and food was good, having sampled both an evening meal and the cooked breakfasts.
We were on a tight budget and this place really helped out offering good value.
The only negative I can think of was that you had to go down the bunk barns external steps to get to the toilets, which was less appealing in the winter snow, but it's hardly the worst thing in the world!

We arrived covered in mud having cycled along the Tissington Trail, and expected to be turned away. Instead, they seated 13 of us and served our food promptly. We were so impressed, we returned the next day (clean this time). The landlord and all the staff were extremely friendly and the food was delicious with huge portions. They also serve Illy coffee for those who are interested!

Didn't stay in the accomodation but visited the pub for a meal on the Saturday night (you have to pre-book to make sure you get a table!)...the food, service and Paul the owner/manager were top notch. The portions are huge and quality of food is fantastic. It's amazing value for money.
It was so good we returned on the sunday evening too.

Recently spent the night at the Royal Oak with a group of 35 work colleagues. The staff and service were excellent and the food was as good as I've tasted at many a restaurant. The accomodation (bunkbeds) and shower facilities were basic but everything was very clean and warm. The countryside around the area is outstanding and I will definitely be visiting the Royal Oak again

This was the third time I have organised a large group from work (34 this time) stay and eat at the Royal Oak. Everytime the visit has been easy to organise and we have been very well looked after. The food is always good and the local beer always goes down a treat. Paul and his staff can not do enough for you and I know that members of our group have returned with family members and friends and have always had the same great experience. A fantastic pub whoever you go with!!
