For sub-par dining experiences, Santa Lucia in Zurich's Old Town really stands out. Wandering around the area and looking for for dinner, I wandered back here, attracted by the warm ambiance and flush crowd. The maître d' (owner?) was warm and I was quickly seated in a great spot.
The waiter was rushed, terse, but that was fine. I order a glass of the featured red wine, minestrone and what seemed to be a specialty, the deluxe piande. Cut to the chase: the minestrone was a salty red gruel, peppered with fibrous bits of vegetable matter. Disappointed, but not dispondent, I waited for the piadine.
It just got worse: what arrived was a wet, salty mass wrapped in what looked like a toasted torilla. Two bites and I was ready for the check. Even when I remarked about the awfulness of the meal, the waiter was clueless and couldn't have cared less.
This is a place to be avoided.
