Because of another hurricane coming thru Florida, Delta flew us out 2 days ahead of our original schedule. I made a last-minute decision based on the reviews on this board. Now...the room was clean. We flew thru the night and arrived at our hotel around 9:00AM and the room was available. That was a plus. But, the room was very small. The bathroom was clean, extremely functional, but also very small. I booked a room with a city view. The view was the apartments across the street, and the trams that ran between us. There were 2 trams that ran right outside the hotel. Every 5 minutes, going directly to the center of the activity in Zurich. That was great. But, they ran from 5:15AM - all day - until midnight. We could not sleep with the window closed, because it was too warm, so we heard trams RIGHT OUTSIDE OUR WINDOW till midnight, and then starting up again VERY early in the AM. The breakfast was very good, and the staff were very friendly, and helpful. Free internet access on the first floor. That was nice. But, I'd find a different hotel next time in Zurich. Too small, and WAY TOO NOISY!

“Fabulous Hotel!”

Rigihof Hotel

We stayed at the Rigihof for 1 night during August 2005. This hotel is wonderful. It is right by a tram stop in a quiet area of Zurich, about a 2-3min tram ride into the centre of things. The receptionists were helpful, nice and even gave us a welcome drink. We walked in looking a mess after an early morning and with some huge rucksacks, and the staff treated us exactly like the polished couple next to us.
The room was light, spacious and airy. We even had a balcony overlooking some pretty apartments. This hotel really did think of everything. In the wardrobe, there was an umbrella for use free of charge which you could also purchase at the end of your stay if you wished. There were slippers, a rubber duck in the bathroom, huge jars of soap, a reasonably priced mini bar, sweeties, everything you wanted really. The hotel info booklet was very very comprehensive, and there was lots of info on Zurich.

As in most hotels, the beds were 2 twins pushed together which doesnt make for the most romantic evening, but they were still comfy.

We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel. Dinner was very nice, a mix of Italian and swiss specialities, and the staff were superb. It was pricey, but similar to the rest of Switzerland. We were even brought a small swiss speciality compliments of the chef.
Breakfast was a continental style buffet, which again was nice.

All in all, we were very happy with this hotel, especially as we had gotten a very cheap rate having shopped around on the internet. This hotel really is style and class without any pretentiousness.

“First class hotel...”

The Rigihof is an unpretentious, first-class hotel, with immaculate and fairly spacious rooms, comfortably furnished in the modern style. While I don't ordinarily comment on the breakfasts served at hotels, it must be said that the Rigi's is outstanding. Bacon and eggs, toast, coffee, croissants, four different kinds of juice, various fruits, cheeses and cold cuts---it's quite a meal. The hotel is located on the No. 9 and 10 tram lines, four stops (about 5 or 6 minutes) from Bellevue Platz and the train-station, respectively. That's not as centrally-located as the Bellerive au Lac or hotels in the Old Town, but it's only a few minutes away (the trams in Zurich seems to run every five minutes or so)---and unlike the Niederdorf area, it's quiet at night. "An added bonus," as they say, is the Linde Restaurant and Brewery, half-a-block away. The restaurant is romantic, the food outstanding; as for the brewery side of the facility, it's a great place to read a newspaper while sipping one of the excellent, homemade beers.
