“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We stayed 2 nights in the 2 bedroom serviced apartment located on Beckenhofstrasse a few minutes walk from the main EMA House on Nordstrasse. Coming into Zurich by train, this was an excellent location as it was only 2 tram stops away from the main train station. City centre is not far off by tram.

The apartment was awesome! It was modern and had all the amenities needed in a serviced apartment. In typical Swiss efficiency, everything in the apartment worked! They checked before we arrived. The place was clean when we checked in and the free wifi was great for our electronic devices. Toiletries supplied were plentiful and of good quality. There is no aircon but the weather was still cool so it was fine.

There were little touches that showed a lot of thought went in to make guests feel welcome and comfortable. For example, there was a welcome note on the table when we entered. There were Toblerone chocolates in the dining and bedrooms. Bedroom slippers and a power outlet adaptor were provided. There was a train schedule app on the huge Smart LED TV. There was even an umbrella for use in the event of inclement weather and shoehorns beside the door. Having stayed in numerous service apartments, EMA certainly has the small touches to make it a better experience - just like a top notch hotel!

Security-wise, it was also good. Although there was no reception desk at Beckenhofstrasse, entry to the building was by high security key. A safe was provided in our apartment and it was big enough to store our 3 laptops.

Service at reception was excellent from point of booking to check-out. However, reception desk closes at 8pm so but it was not too big a problem. A mobile number is provided if there is an emergency, The only thing we were not too pleased about was the housekeeping. When we came back in the evening, we found litter on the floor, the bedroom slippers in disarray and the bathroom towels not folded back. It was not as if we messed up the place; we had even washed, dried and kept the crockery and cutlery before we went out. We regretted leaving a tip in the apartment for the housekeeping person who didn't deserve it.

Notwithstanding the housekeeping problem, we enjoyed our stay at EMA very much and would stay there again next time in Zurich. It is a place we would recommend to friends.

Beautiful suite, immaculate cleaning. Front staff is very helpful and courteous. They allowed us to store luggage for hours until our suite was prepared, and let us move into our room early as we were exhausted. Very comfortable room. The best possible start to our Switzerland vacation!

The EMA house has absolutely monstrously huge rooms for European standards. Even the cheapest room (which we stayed in), was the size of a small apartment. Overall, the room was clean, the staff was friendly, and the hotel felt very hi-tech. The shower pressure was awesome (seriously, this stuff is important).

The location leaves a bit to be desired, as it's pretty far from the city center, but literally across the street are 2 tram stops which take you pretty much anywhere. Just make sure you plan your route ahead of time and you should be fine.

The beds in the hotel were a bit uncomfortable for my tastes, and the hotel worker referred to the a/c as a "radiator" when he showed us around. Even though it was cold outside, the room itself stayed warm with the cold on full blast. I woke up sweating a few times. I'm not sure if our "radiator" was broke, or the rooms just simply don't get as cold as I'm used to, but for such a nice hotel, I would've appreciated sleeping in a room that was at least moderately cool.

Fantastic Hospitality and crew. For an Indian family it provides the right ambience, the security and comfort. The staff are courteous and extremely helpful. Being very well acquainted with the local and entire Swiss tourism destinations, getting tours, bookings, tickets and information was excellent. The 24 hour availability is a warm differentiation from other parts of the Euro world. Very comfortable and will always stay here. A definite home away from home in Switzerland. Great value for money and excellent for a family outing and long stay. A two stop from the Central Train Station, it is a definite best day in Zurich.

Room Tip: Book early, send a mail, talk to the staff and be proactive in addition to using a booking site. Als...

From a safety perspective the place was fine with keyed entry to the building after 9pm when the desk was no longer staffed. As with most I was given a suite as they only have 2 actually "hotel rooms" the rest are business suites. (If not a business user, don't have full kitchen use though). The suite is big and rooms are separated, not like some suites which are just large studios.

The place was really clean, furniture modern enough but a bit office-like unsurprisingly. Bed was comfy and could turn heating off completely and open the windows or the door onto the balcony. From the balcony and front windows, there was a river view but also a view of the major roads.

The down side was probably the noise. I was on the 2nd floor, (called the 4'th floor bc 2 below ground levels 1 and 2). With windows closed, could still hear all the trams going by and there was also roadworks till midnight. Trams were frequent every 5-mins and stop right outside (handy for transport). Maybe a higher room would be better?

The location wasn't great for me. Very safe, but out of the way. Some have said it is very central and it is by car no doubt, but when I was walking back to the hotel at 8.30pm, I often only saw 1 or 2 other people around...tram is an option if you don't want to walk of course, but the point is its a bit away from everything -only about 15mins walk downhill to the old town though, so it depends what you're looking for.

When walking there with luggage, don't come along the river, that's the steepest way, either get the tram number 14 or 11 at the train station it's only two stops - or walk following the tram tracks. Ask at the train station tourist information, they are great... Near the main exit doors.

Finally, the staff were really friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was included and served in the room and was a cold breakfast.

I would stay at EMA House again bc the space, rooms and and privacy are great, but in preference I'd rather be somewhere a bit more central.

Room Tip: Ask for a room upstairs. The floor numbering is unusual, floors 1 and 2 are car park or something, b...

This was an excellent hotel for our family stay. The suite was spacious and we all had plenty of room to move around without feeling crowded. Daily breakfast was incredible; a wonderful way to start the day. Breakfast was delivered to the room daily rather than the family going to a buffet; times could be adjusted daily to accommodate any planned outings. EMA house was quite convenient to the Zurich main train station, a requirement for a tourist in the city. In-room internet service was available at an additional charge, but a business center is available for use. All desk staff spoke fluent English as well as several other languages. Fantastic service.

This is a great choice for a family. The "studio" that they provided was beautiful, breakfast was delivered and was very generous, and the service was very attentive and friendly. Finally the location is fantastic. I would highly recommend this hotel.
