Owner description: The Zürich Zoo, situated on a hillside away from downtown, is excellent. It’s compact, tree-filled and has about 2,000 animals from 250 different species. There are tropical rainforests and an enormous biosphere. The fascinating Madagascar pavilion and the elephant house are worth a look. Open daily.

This is one of the most amazing zoos that I ever saw and no wonder it is one of the best zoos in the world.

“Great for young and old; weekends are busy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The Zürich Zoo has a very wide variety of animals, spread across a large space. This includes, elephants, lions, tigers, gorillas, camels, a wide assortment of owls, fish, flamingos, zebras, and of course penguins. There are both indoor and outdoor activities, as well as a number of playgrounds when kids are tired of looking at animals.

Several tips:

On weekends, either get there early or avoid bringing a car, as it's quite busy. The 6 tram delivers you directly there. On the other hand, they will often have special exhibits on the weekends.

Wagons are provided for children, at the entrances, but there are limited quantities.

When the temperature is below 10°C the penguins go on a little parade at 1:00pm daily, as I understand it.

“Excellent place to spend a day with youngsters”

Wonderful park with many rare species, perfectly organised, with great playgrounds, recreation areas and multi-language explanation labels. Really excellent place to spend a day with children and youngsters.

“Great day out even in bad weather”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

The day we visited the zoo it was bleak, grey, cold and foggy. But there were plenty of indoor exhibits that were great, interesting and engaging for our kids 10yrs and 6yrs. The electric eel with voltage meter was of particular interest. Some great conservation displays too and some good outdoor play areas. Food on offer was fresh and an amazing range with places to sit inside and out. 22 chfs for adults and 11chfs for kids over 6 BUT if you have a 1/2 card for the train you can get in for free JUST REMEMBER to pick up your free entry card at the train station as you won't get it at the entrance to the zoo!

“not bad but...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2012

Many cages are still just to small. In general I don't like zoos where animals are forced to live in instead of beeing free. In comparison with other zoos like Wilhema in Stuttgart Germany or Hagenbek in Hamburg Germany or Burger Zoo Arnheim Netherlands, the Zurich zoo is not interesting.
