“Great retreat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

This hotel is your typical Swiss traditional hotel. There is absolutely nothing to fault. We arrived a bit early, had a quick coffee in the bar and was then shown to our room. Great room, fantastic bathroom and an overall excellent experience. Breakfast was great, service fantastic and we will definitely go back next time we are in Zurich.

Really traditional, in the best possible way. This hotel makes you realize why Swiss training is the standard for hoteliers. Courteous, super efficient. I had a first floor room with a terrace and a lake view. the road outside is busy but the double glazing works a treat. Lovely bed, loads of space, beautiful bathroom. Breakfast was ample, and delicious. And they have a lovely roof top bar overlooking the lake.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

This a typical 3-star hotel that sells at a high price due to its location and exterior. The location is really good, just in 10 min walk to the old city, or 5 min by tram that stops nearby on the street behind the hotel.
So that is all about it.
The single room is very tiny and looks very old-fashioned. It's actually a connected room with a locked inner door, do don't expect soundproofing between your room and a connected one. The bed is small with only one pillow. The air con doesn't work.
The bathroom is tiny too, with poor water pressure in the shower. The radiator in the bathroom is cold. Neither bathrobe or slippers are in the room.
There is actually a view to the Lake, but don't expect to enjoy the view while sit on your balcony. The balcony faces a noisy and busy street that is in between the hotel and the embankment. The noise is very tangible so you might want to close windows in order to speak over the phone in the room. Considering the non-working air con you will have to keep windows open to avoid suffocation in your stuffy room but hear the noise all the time.
There is no gym and spa in the hotel.
Maybe I should try Eden au Lac when it finally gets renovation and meets expectations as a real 5-star hotel but not now when the hotel is too expensive offering poor facilities.

I have stayed there on my various business trips to this lovely city since 2004 and this hotel never fails to deliver!! despite having changed ownership and management it continued its tradition to being a first class hotel, and by Swiss standard, it tells you a lot!! the rooms facing the lake are beautiful especially the ones with the little balcony area - their thursday Jazz-night is not to be missed if you do have the time to mingle with the local loyal jazz-lovers. what I like about the hotel is their eye for details. the hotel is close to the Opera-House and minutes walk to the train station - plus they do serve the best Breakfast in any hotel of it's class.. the disadvantage they do not have a gym - but why need it when you can step out and run by Lake-Zurich?!? a most beautiful trail that is un-obstructed for miles on...

Room Tip: ask for the rooms facing the lake - worthwhile if you dont mind the traffic which can be a bit noisy...

3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

After having a lovely stay last year we returned, but sadly wished we hadn't. Although it was July the weather was cold and there was no heating on even the heated towel rail in the bedroom(314) was off, we were given a electric heater (not what you expect in a luxury hotel). Also television sound was piped into the bathroom so loud it was a nuisance and there was no switch to turn it off in there. The breakfast was terrible not much choice and one morning no bread left, the cooked breakfast was kept warm in bain maries the scrambled egg was inedible. the bacon fatty and the sausages insipid. Sadly we will not return! The reception staff (males) were also very aloof and unfriendly.

This boutique hotel is a sample of quality in Europe. The hotel is Petite, rooms are small with very little view but clean and nice, the Décor is beautiful and the staff very kind and cooperative.
Breakfast is served every day from 6:30 to 10:30 am and is delicious.
If you are in a Business trip and can afford this hotel is a good choice to stay.
As most quality European Hotels is old, well maintained and very clean.
Compared to a 5 Star in the US this hotel lacks space in the rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room to avoid the noise of the street
