I stayed in Zurich during a business trip - I was meant to be in Basel, but all the hotels there were full due to a watch and jewellery exhibition! My company booked the Adler because it was close to the railway station (10 minutes walk), which was excellent for trains to Basel and to the airport.

The hotel is a small, privately run establishment. I had a single room which was small but nice and very clean, similat to photos posted by previous reviewers. Prices are reasonable (for Zurich) and the continental breakfast was nice.

I did not eat in the hotel restautant for lunch / dinner, although it seemed to be popular.

The location of the hotel is great, right in the middle of the old town, close to the river and with many bars and restaurants nearby. Although it was not a quiet area, when I closed the (double-glazed) window, I was not disturbed by the noise outside.

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Adler for 2 nights in April (4/1, 4/2). We were very happy with the hotel and would highly recommend it for its location and price. We arrived into Zurich after
an overnight flight, and were told our room wasn't ready, however after some breakfast and sightseeing our room was ready by noon (2 hours earlier than check in time.) Our room was clean, comfortable and had a great view. The staff was helpful and you really can't beat
the location. We had a room facing the square, but we found the windows kept a lot of the noise out. The only unusal thing was the door to the bathroom. It was half frosted and half clear, so you could see right in. I would definately stay here again!!

It was my 1st trip to Zurich, and it was on short notice for business. I searched on this web site and was not able to find a hotel worth staying at. After seeing all the good reviews on this hotel, I decided to chance my luck by contacting the hotel myself. I am pleased that I did.

I was able to get a Junior suite. It was big enough and very clean with everything you need. Bed was also comfortable. The staff were very helpful in pointing out the best ways to get around and I actually ended up taking a fantastic 20 minute walk to my meeting which went along Lake Zurich instead of one of those ultra expensive 10 minute taxi rides.

The hotel is very close to the main shopping street, 5min walk, and is located right where all the main restaurants & bars are. Fall out of the door and there you are.

I was concerned that maybe there would be excessive noise duing the evening but that was not the case. Once I closed the balcony door there was nothing to be heard.

I would consider taking my family there as the rooms are quite big and it is child friendly enough, for the under 4 bracket, that you won't pull your hair out trying to put everything out of reach or harms way.

Just one note: If you are travelling light and are going to or from the airport then take the train. I took the (SFr 25) shuttle bus service to the airport and it was not a pleasant experience. Luckily I had left an extra half an hour to get to the airport. They stipulate that it should take approx. 30min. It took a little over an hour. I took the train from the airport to the hotel the previous day and it took about 20min to get to the main trainstation. It cost (SFr 6.60) and from there it was a 10min walk to the hotel. I shouldn't have been so lazy in the morning, it would have saved me money and time.

“Great location, famous fondue and friendly staff!”

On a recent visit to Zurich I stayed with family, however, I had the opportunity to tour the Hotel Adler. My original intentions of visiting the hotel were to experience the world famous fondue served in their "Swiss Chiuchi." My family raves about, and I now know why! Its the way fondue should be - sharp almost to the point of pungent!

Since I work for a company that books reservations at Hotel Adler, I was allowed to tour a couple of their rooms. The rooms are contemporary in style and each room features a different painting. Though the rooms may be considered small by American standards - they are comfortable and functional (and not a bad price for Zurich!)

The staff in the hotel and the "Chiuchi" all seem friendly and helpful.

Last, the location can't be beat! I personally loved Altstadt (old town.) Although Altstadt may seem touristy, it is less touristy than other parts of Zurich. There you can experience the swiss flavor in the local restaraunts and cafes. There is an abundance of nightlife in the area (may not be good for those wanting to go to sleep early.) The hotel is about 15 minutes walking distance (5 - 10 minutes by tram) from the hauptbanhof and the famous shopping of Banhofstrasse.

Hotel Adler has it all - friendly staff, great food and excellent location.

“bad service! ungracious rule!”

warning!
the hotel never mentions but be careful because we were four people and the waiter told us we have to order fours courses, and when we told one of us did not so hungry and did not want to order he (not in a very polite way) said : it is a rule so we must order! Than we called the manager , he said we have to order but it doesn`t have to be a main course. the fondue was good but still the behavior of the waiter and the thinks `rule` which is not so polite for me was enough to ruined our night. I think they have to warn while you are making your reservation. nevertheless the fondues was good.

Management Response

Adler's Swiss Chuchi is one of the busiest Restaurants in town and people are lining up to get seats. On all pages of the menu is mentioned that guests need to order at least one dish per person during the main service hours from 6pm to 10pm. The restaurant is not very expensive, but you get linen on the table and napkins. As guests expeciting a good service and good food, the restaurant expects that guests ordering at least one dish per person.
I had 3 e-mails with the person tried to expline why we have it.
The family did not even stay at at the Adler Hotel, just dropped in and by accident we had a table for them.
I'm annoyed about such guest expecting everything but are very cheap.
