“Comfortable and convenient city hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We stayed at the Hotel Adler for two nights in October on our first visit to Zurich, which we found to be a pleasant city. Niederdorfstrasse is the main street in the ‘Old Town’ area and has been pedestrianised. The Adler is on a corner of it, overlooking a nice little square which marks the end of the part of the street (the northern end) which has become a little tacky and contains lots of cheap restaurants and souvenir shops. The Adler is a smart and comfortable hotel, well positioned in central Zurich, a few minutes’ walk from the Grossmünster. It contains a very popular public restaurant, the ‘Swiss Chuchi’, which specialises in fondues and raclettes, and is therefore never free from the odour of melted cheese! Our room was spacious and elegant and the en-suite, also spacious, had an excellent shower. The breakfast buffet provided a good selection.

The good: the rooms are very clean and attractively decorated, the bathrooms are modern, breakfast is fine, and the location in a trendy Old Town neighborhood is a good one. You can get to the lake, Banhofstrasse or Grossmunster in a few minutes. The not so good: the rooms are absolutely tiny. The bad: on the low floors you smell the raclette and fondue cooking in the restaurant below (which apparently has been a Swiss restaurant since the eighteenth century -- I don't care, I didn't want to smell it all night), and it's on a noisy square that didn't quiet down until after one. The windows had to be opened to cool the room down on an October evening, and that meant putting up with the din. The breakfast staff were great, and the folks at the hotel desk were helpful enough. I understand that Switzerland is expensive, but usually the high prices are justified by high quality. Hotel Adler suffers in important respects, but in truth, I am not sure that you'd find a better deal in Central Zurich. Would I stay there again? Yes, but I'd bring ear plugs and demand a higher floor. It's not a bad hotel at all, in some ways it's a nice one, but . . .

Room Tip: I think the rooms facing Rosengasse are probably quieter than the rooms on the square. High floor t...

This was my second stay at this hotel. the location is great in old town Zurich.
The room was quaint and charming. clean and comfortable.
The price was expensive along with rest of Zurich so nothing really to complain about here.
The breakfast was really good.
The fondue smell was overwhelming when you first walk in but after that, it was not noticeable at all.
Overall, great! I would be back again.

The Hotel Adler is well placed in Zurich. I had several meetings in the centre of town and was able to get to all three quickly using the tram system, whose nearest stop is only 50 metres from the hotel. There are a wide range of restaurants within a couple of minutes walk. The rooms are well furnished and comfortable. Because of the city centre location, there can be street noise outside but the double glazing efficiently cuts most of it out. Breakfast is good.

Room Tip: If noise could be a problem for you, ask for a room on a higher floor.

Stayed here for a week recently. The room was small as they often are in Switzerland! but sufficient for our needs. The bed was really comfortable and the Ac/heating worked well. Double glazing meant quiet nights! There were USB sockets on the desk. When we asked if we could fill our hotwater flask, they offered us a kettle. The staff were friendly and obliging. Breakfast was excellent served in the enchanting Swiss restaurant. Good location for everything.

We stayed here for the last night of a 4 week trip to Europe (which had finished with a week near Zurich for a work conference) at the recommendation of a work colleague, so we weren't expecting much-the company was paying! It was great then that we found a hotel with plenty of charm and comfort in a truly excellent location. As a first time visitor, I would think that the cobblestoned streets, cute shops, ancient buildings and abundant restaurants and bars of Zurich's old town would have to make it the best area to stay and it all happens to be only 10 minutes walk from the train, a few metres from the tram stop, 10 minutes walk from the Bahnhofstrasse shopping strip and 10 minutes walk from the lake. As others have said, the rooms are small but I've seen much smaller and there was enough room for bags, the bed was good and the bathroom was spacious enough. We were worried that it might be noisy given that we were overlooking a square with lots of restaurants and outside seating, but the windows were double glazed and there was no problem. Summer could be an issue if you needed to have windows open. There was a cosy lounge on the first floor for a quiet refuge which the staff kindly let us use long after we had checked out while waiting for our night flight home and, to top it off, this hotel was by far the least expensive of all our stays in Europe. We were very impressed and would definitely stay there again

Room Tip: Top floor rooms probably best
