“Central Swiss dining - good but could be great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2013

The Adler is well located in the centre of Zurich's old town, surrounded by bars, cafes, and night clubs.

It advertises itself as a traditional Swiss restaurant with a range of raclets and fondues. Inevitably it is very touristy. In an attempt to seat everyone who wants to enjoy Swiss cuisine (probably the only reasonably priced traditional restaurant here), tables are very close together, and there is barely room to move. Once raclets are plugged in, the spaghetti of trailing cables is an accident waiting to happen!

That said, the food is superb, and the staff were excellent, handling multiple languages easily.

We will visit again, but possibly on a more quieter day, or in summer, when the outside seating area might reduce the volume of people.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your feedback.

Our Restaurant Swiss Chuchi is one of the most popular Swiss Restaurants in town.
Nearly every evening it is fully booked and also well visited during lunch times.

It is right that it attracts a lot of tourists, but you would be surprised how many locals like to dine here too.

Weekends are very busy, so should you wish to come back the next time, I would recommend an evening during the week and around 6pm or 6.30pm as the favourite time to dine seems to be around 7pm.

Your positive comment about the staff being excellent and handling multiple languages easily and the food being superb has been passed on to our staff and their according Manager of department. It was very much appreciated.

Looking forward to welcoming you back soon!

Best regards

“Adler Hotel Restaurant review”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Hi,

I went there for a dinner with a freind during a stopover in Zurich. We order two fondue, two glases of wine and coke. Food was okay- it was a busy night and they kind of rush us with our meal. To make it worst- they charged me for three wine and diff. fondue (obviously more expensive). I did not the enjoy the meal nor the service. My advice- just go to somewhere else (you will find various if you walk around) or double check your bill. Fondue 25 CHF per person, wine CHF, coke 4 CHF plus gratitude.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your feedback.

We are sorry to hear about the miss happening regarding your bill and that you were mistakably charged for three wines instead of two which you had consumed.

Kindly advise our Restaurant Manager the next time in order to avoid leaving unsatisfied.

There are various types of Fondues which we offer and the prices vary from CHF 25.00 to CHF 30.00 which is in the same price range as other Restaurants that serve Fondue.

At this point it is unfortunately hard to explain why you received the wrong bill, but again we wish to apologise for the inconvenience caused and hope that you know, this was surely not intentional.

Hoping that you will give us a second chance and looking forward to welcoming you another time.

Kind regards

“Cheesy Smell”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013

Found this hotel via the tourist info at the railway station. The room was average, similar to a Travelodge or Ibis, but the building and public areas were great and comfortable. Lovely breakfast with lots of different food and juices to choose from. Friendly staff and when I asked if we could have a glass of wine in the small lounge on the landing, there was no problem at all - just paid for it in the restaurant below. However, our whole stay was coloured by the VERY strong cheese smell that started about 6pm and lingered throughout the hotel (including into our rooms) and hung around over breakfast. Our only relief was when we left after breakfast. If you like cheese fondue, then you'll be in your element. If you don't, I would avoid this hotel.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We are happy to read that despite the cheese smell you did enjoy your stay with us and that you liked our breakfast buffet with the different varieties. I personally think that it has a lot to offer for a three star Hotel.

There are several public areas, a little lounge with sofas on the first floor, a table with two chairs in the lobby and our multi functional meeting room, which when not used for a conference, serves as a lounge where one can enjoy a nice glass from our Swiss wine collection and snacks, all which can be ordered in our Restaurant. It is nice that you made use of this service.

As already mentioned in my answers to previous guest comments about the cheese smell, we are sorry that this can be overpowering at times and that some people feel disturbed by it.
We try our best to get rid of it, but it does come through the Restaurant door and in to the Hotel.
It is a part of the Swiss culture though and we are proud to be the most popular “Swiss speciality” Restaurant in Zurich offering many varieties of Fondue and Raclette which is very delicious.

Despite this fact, I really do not think this should be a reason to avoid us completely, as we have many other qualities to offer!

Best regards

“Great place, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Perfect for staying for business: clean, free non alcoholic minibar (maybe just a temporal offer), right in the center. The staff is friendly and helpful.
Both room and toilet are not very big, but enough (I was in a single room, maybe double ones are bigger)
The breakfast is also good

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your comment.

Yes, since 2013 our mini bar includes water and coke which is free of charge.
Other soft drinks and alcohol can be ordered in our Restaurant.

For a longer stay, we recommend queen or double twin rooms which can be booked for single use and are not that much more expensive than a single room (between CHF 20.00 and CHF 30.00 more).

We look forward to receiving your future request and hope to welcome you back soon!

“Reliable home in Zurich”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

I have been staying at the Adler practically every year for the past 16 years. Even if I could afford it, I wouldn't think of staying anywhere else. It's not that the rooms are particularly wonderful - they are functional, always clean and comfortable. I keep coming back because the staff is always welcoming and helpful, the location is superb (in the old town but just 10 minutes' walk from the hauptbahnhof; an easy walk to the opera house, the art museum and the shopping across the Limmat), the breakfast is great, the wifi reliable and free, and, well, it's a cozy and pleasurable place to stay in wintry Zurich. Highly recommended.

Dear Guest

What a pleasure it is to see that even a regular guest, or in your case we can say a part of the Adler Family, has taken the time to write a nice comment on TripAdvisor. Your kind words are highly appreciated

It is wonderful that you feel so comfortable at the Adler with the effect of returning every year for the past 16 years. Amazing!

As you know, the Adler is a little family and we all get along well with each other which makes our daily work a pleasure. We have so many regular customers and it is nice to see a familiar face returning.

Take good care and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Best wishes
