“The Pool has gone and they're still charging for wifi...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

We booked to stay here as we had been before and found that although the hotel is quite far out, the excellent tram connections mean that this was not a problem.
However, one of the main reasons we returned was as we wanted to enjoy the pool and leisure facilities and to our amazement when we arrived they had gone, replaced with just a fitness centre - no steam room, spa pool or sauna even!
The hotel continues to charge an extortionate rate for Wifi access, come on guys this is not acceptable in 2012 - nearly everywhere offers this service for free now!

Similarly the breakfast price was a rip off, and having read the reviews, we decided to skip it and head into town for food at a sensible price (well as sensible as Zurich can be!)

The rooms are very spacious if a little dated, and the beds are big and comfortable. The mini-bar had only one bottle of mineral water in it - but the fridge was very handy to keep our purchases from Aldi across the street fresh inside, so that was very welcome.

We managed to snap up our room on lastminute.com and therefore paid a very good rate - which meant we could almost forgive them for the loss of the facilities. However, I would not pay full price now they have got rid of their pool and leisure facilities.

A tip is that the hotel reception staff can sell you tickets for the tram/ bus / train system which is great value and an easy way to get around the city. They will also help you with maps and directions, and were very friendly.

Thank you very much for your comment. First of all I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for choosing the Renaissance Hotel for your stay in Zurich. Through to the renovation at the end of the year 2011 we closed the pool and steam room area. I feel sorry, that this causes for you an inconvenience.
For the wireless Internet connection, we provide for our guests 30 minutes free of charge per room and per day. If you need longer connections, you have several options to choose, including a minute option.
The price you have seen for the Breakfast is calculated for our whole comprehensive Buffett. Certainly you could choose as well the Healthy Start, the Continental Breakfast or directly a la carte items for a lower price. The prices are reflecting the area.
Instead of a filled minibar, we have the Impulse shop, next to the reception, which has a greater assortment and lower prices. The shop is open 24 hours and the fridge in the room is still there for your convenience.

Once again I thank you for your stay and hope to welcome you back.

Kindest regards,

I stayed here for a few days for a work conference and was overall very impressed.

The rooms are very nice, spacious and new. Bed large and t.v. new. The bathrooms are a bit old but this was no real issue for me. Safe in the room was good for leaving valuables. Prompt service with room service and also very friendly cleaning staff (always say hello in the hall).

The one bad thing is the location - it does take awhile to get downtown, so if this is something you would prefer, don't stay here. However, the tram (right outside the hotel) will bring you to the downtown area in about 25 minutes.

Overall good hotel - would not stay here for personal reasons, but this was convenient for us given the conference and the proximity to the airport (10 minutes by cab).

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for your nice feedback. I am glad you had a fantastic and comfortable stay with us.
Certainly the hotel is not located at the centre of Zurich. The situation is very convenient if you travel by plane, as it is by direct connection with the tram only 9 minutes and as you mentioned there is as well the direct connection by tram to the city centre within 23 minutes.

I am looking forward to welcome you back.

Kindest regards,

Roland Ulmer

This hotel is situated quiet outside the city. But the trams and local taxis are very well connected. The hotel has very good reception and to be must specified are the rooms. The rooms are really very spacious with a small sitting area and then the bedroom. The bad thing is the restaurant. Indians will have a very bad time with the breakfast. No toaster is available and bed can be toasted only on request. Also the spread is very poor. Otherwise all otherthings are fantastic. The staffs are also very helpful.

Room Tip: Prepare for a continental type breakfast

The hotel locates in a bussiness area but just 10 mintues by tram to the main city center and old city. The rooms are spacious and decorated in modern styles. The office staff are freindly but, our check-in took long time as the people at the front desks were trainees and not well profesional. The hotel manager was very kind and anytime accessible. The breakfast was good and all the newly arrived guest were welcomed by drinks and green apples. Therefore, I'd like to recommand this hotel to any business traveller

the hotel is ideal for conference and meeting needs. has a good space for 100 plus in classroom style. the staff is excellent and very helpful. the dedicated event team is amazing support. breakfast is good. it also has a in-house bar. the hotel is located very close to GLATPARK tram station and is 25 min away in tram from the rail city (main station). the rooms are very comfortable and has all necessary facility which a hotel of this caliber should have.

Room Tip: all r non smoking! try and take a room facing train station.

First time here. I chose this because of its’ proximity to ZRH for a morning flight. Although still expensive, it was comparable in price to the Hilton or the Radisson Blu.

My room was nicely kitted out, comfortable bed, clean bathroom

This is not a hotel where you have a lot of dining choices… it’s in an office/light industrial district. I looked at the hotel’s menu, and had a chat with the Concierge/Navigator, who pointed me to a neighbourhood Italian place, which was a brisk walk, but well worth it.

The Executive Lounge is on the 4th floor, directly off the elevator. It’s a small area, but serviceable. I arrived late, and the food seemed to be running thin. With jetlag, I awoke at 4a, and was pleased to find that there was bottled water available in the lounge… yea!

The breakfast setup was nice, but not as lavish as the Zurich Marriott. Certainly sufficient.

The shuttle is CHF16 back to the airport, which I thought was a bit annoying for an airport hotel.

Nice place, and the restaurant they recommended was great. That said, I might try the Hilton next time, just for comparison. If you’re a Marriott points person, you’ll be pleased with this property. I would happily return.

This hotel will only be open for another year and then will be replaced by the Towers that is up and running already. Despite this, I find this hotel a very comfortable place to stay for business if your office is in the Glatt environs. It is a 30 minute tram ride into Zurich so not as good for tourist travel.

The staff is friendly, has a high service standard and is keeping high spirits despite the fact that they know that this gig will end. I have been staying here for two weeks on business and they have made me feel quite at home.

The hotel has redone their gym which is improved and has new equipments. The rooms are sizable for Europe with comfy beds.

Room Tip: Ask for an inside room or one facing the road, not the train tracks.

Thank you very much for your kind feedback.

We were surprised to read, that the hotel should be closed next year. This is not the case.
The Renaissance Tower Hotel is placed in Zurich as an additional property of the Marriott portfolio and will be not replacing our hotel.
As in major gateways Marriott has multiple properties in the area.

We are looking forward to welcome you back next year.

Kindest regards,

Roland Ulmer
