“Close to the train station, but not much else”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

spent 3 night during a business trip to Zurich. Location is good, a 10-minute walk from the train station. Apart from that the hotel itself is nothing special: clean (but there are offices at the hotel where people are allowed to smoke, so the hallway stunk of smoke, really annoying), although the room was rather small, but it did have tea/coffee facilities in the room, which is always a plus. The biggest minus was lack of free Wifi in the room, which you still can have against a ridiculous charge. You can have free Wifi at the lobby, but for the price of te room charge, it should have been a free rervice. The reception staff was not particularly polite, but spoke good English. Breakfast was a buffet-style & the quality was average with a very limited choice for vegans (fruit only), another minus for this hotel. Also, it is located close to a chruch and the church bells are very loud, if you are sensetive to noise, ear plugs are recommended.

Location wise its a good hotel with train station within walking distance and a tram station right across the street. Beyond that its a very basic hotel with probably just 3 people running the whole hotel. Rooms are very basic with no extra amenities and definitely no wifi. Breakfast is very average and if you come down by 9am, most things tend to get over.

7th april 2013, one night. This hotel is basic and not 100% up to scratch. No sleep due to church bells ringing every hour throughout the night. The hotel itself is quite old and there was no internet in the room. Breakfast was fine.

I chooses this hotel as all others were fully booked. This is supposed to be a 3-star hotel, all amenities should be well built. Wrong!

I checked in and realized this is more a hostel than a hotel. There are rooms without bath facility built, and elevator is "manual" operated with room for two adults and two luggages at the same time. There is no air conditioning built so you either open the window For wind and noise from street or close it and turn on 80' electric fans in room. Worst part is there is a pub right downstairs which provides loud and metallic music whole night.

Room Tip: Stay away as it is over priced. If you have no choice, then request ear plugs as they do provide it.

I love the X-tra Hotel and have stayed here a number of times when visiting Zurich. The rooms have all the amenities you need and are very clean. There is a great breakfast buffet in a lovely eating area in the mornings. Easy access to the centre of Zurich by tram and a huge supermarket over the road if you want to buy food to eat in your room.
There is a club downstairs so it can be noisy in the evenings, but personally we enjoy this and the energy it brings.

Hotel with a nightlife? Maybe it's a decent club, I don't know; and maybe if you stay here drunk or pick someone up, you won't notice anything wrong. But if you stay here as a guest with no intension of clubbing here then you will not enjoy it.

During my stay I heard club music in to 3 am. There was a constant buzzing in the hallway heard from the rooms--because the wall are paper thin and you can hear everything.

The service is abysmal!

Stay far far away from this place unless you're going to get wasted here, then I suppose its a step up from the street corner.

Room Tip: Don't stay here.

This hotel is attached to a dance club/disco and looks like a warehouse building outside but once inside the hotel everything is renovated not just the guest room but the hallway as well. Reception staff are friendly and eager to help about giving info to where to eat whether you crave for fastfood or swiss fine dining. Zurich main train station is around 15 minutes walk and very safe even at night. Macdonald's is around 5 minutes walk and the area is generally quiet and clean. Very good value hotel if to stay for city sightseeing and dining in this expensive city.
