A calm, well-organised, un-fussy hotel in a beautiful position overlooking the lake close to the Opera House and all the attractions of the Old Town. The rooms and en suite bathrooms were spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The staffing seems to be kept to a minimum but the service offered is excellent. All staff were of a high professional standard. I can highly recommend this hotel for a quiet tourist trip or as a business venue. Much like Zurich itself!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Steigenberger Bellerive au Lac is ideally located. Something is “wrong” with this hotel!!!: they characterise and promote it it as the "only 4 star superior hotel directly on the shores of Lake Zurich”. The property and facilities are definitely 5stars plus, while service set up, falls within 3-4 stars! It does not make sense, unless property / management company has another 5 star hotel in the neighbourhood and do it on purpose!
It really challenges the positive reputation and brand recognition of Steigenberger Hotels and Resorts!
Also the AUDI / VW dealership occupying the entire ground floor is not a good picture, upon arrival, taxi had nowhere to park, (all parking spots where occupied by some “fancy” RSs AUDIS!!!) and of course there was no porter!

The hotel staff are trying their best to help with everything, yet its severely understaffed even for a 4sup star hotel.

Anyway, from the hotel one enjoys truly unspoilt views of Lake Zurich and the entire surrounding city centre which is less than a ten minutes stroll away. The world-famous Zurich shopping mall, the Bahnhofstrasse, the business and financial centre surrounding Paradeplatz, together with the historical old city centre can be reached easily and comfortably on foot or by tram.
The highlight is the BelleVue revamped promenade just in front of the hotel! DO spend some quality time there!

stars / category: 4sup
Lobby: very basic, small, just to allow to you to enter the building in a small corridor within the walls of the car dealership.

1st floor: nice Vivus restaurant with a nice terrace / Vivus Bar for coffee & drinks

elevators: 2 for customers, no major delays, congestion experienced!
the real nice experience starts upon “climbing up” the stairs, it gives a special ambience and the very special flair of a true Steigenberger hotel!
nice Art Deco architecture blended with some nautical decorative elements (corridors, staircases), resembles the marine feeling and reminds that you are by the water!

room entry system: electronic card very efficient and always operating.
room type: Double Room Superior Lake View on 3rd floor
room size: 30 sqm, really spacious!
room decoration design: Art Deco style, showcasing the best in a mix of high end quality customised wooden fixtures, combined with glass and a touch of inox!

nice architecture creating 2 separate / parallel guest circulation channels / one entrance from hall to room, one hall, wardrobe, WC - bathroom to room/ which can be interchanged and adapted with the many sliding / opening doors, (which are covered in matching wood)

smoking / non smoking rooms option: no
view from the room: for this one I will give 7/5
opening windows: yes, fully.
balcony: yes, small but fantastic for enjoying alfresco coffee, relaxing, just staring! nice inox modern round table with 2 chairs

Feeling of safety: ultra high, its Swiss!
check in: very fast and efficient / 3 min

floor quality (parket / marble/ carpet / other): very special parquet; attention in design and assembling, also nice and thick carpets below coffee table, excellently maintained

heating / air-conditioning / ventilation: excellent one - nice AC HoneyWell brand featuring air circulation system, very silent + 2 calorifier heaters below windows as well / covered in wood

noise levels: insulation internal / external: excellent, soundproof windows (doubled glazed) absolutely silent despite front road . Had some late midnight next room noises issues due to a “passionate” Eastern European couple!
shading (electrical shades, curtains, etc): curtains (3 folds, offering total darkness) + external aluminium foils manually operated from inside

feeling clean: 5/5 pleasantly odoured! (not intoxicated by usual “cheap” chemical air deodorants!)
room lighting: 5/5, very bright and efficient, not usual in hotels nowadays!
dimmer option: no
electricity sockets: sockets everywhre! also embedded in bedside tables , special base inside parquet floor by tv station , on working desk, etc
nice (SKROSS brand) AC universal adapter on working desk for the world traveller!

bed: king size (not 2 interconnected!)
mattress: very good quality, memory foam mattress, either you love it or not! A bit hard for my tastes, yet got a good night’s sleep!
pillows: 4, also with pillows menu available
covers (duvet, blankets, etc): 2 duvets (typical german Swiss style) and nice cover, just excellent!
linens quality: 5/5

good turn down service, with a complimentary chocolate, which was “ultra thin” / when you offer something, you better do it right or leave it!

writing desk / workspace: yes, plenty! wood & glass working desk with matching design chair (wooden / leather)
design desk lamp
2 chairs + wooden glass round coffee / breakfast table
suitcase stand: yes / expandable and also fixed on “his” wardrobe closet
ok dressing mirrors

wardrobe closet: yes, just excellent! one for “her" and an open one for “him”!
efficient clothes hangers: more than you can wish for! and good quality
shoe shine sponge / cloth: yes, cloth
sleepers:yes, ok quality, hotel name branded, nothing special
Iron & Ironing Board: no
trousers press: no
no clothes brush! - would have added that extra touch!
nice umbrella, usually needed in Zurich!
dustbin: yes, big one, plastic, did not math the rest of the high end finishing of the room.

# of television devices in the room: 1 / Philips 32" hotel model HF7875; a bit basic hotel room model
on once wood glass tv table on roller wheels; nice option to position conveniently around depending on which part of the room you are sitting at

cable / satellite TV: yes
Digital TV Channels: yes, ok selection, could have had a larger variety of English channels!
Pay TV: yes, ACENTIC platform; was not operational during stay!
tv channels: > 60, including many international ones

# of tel devices in the room: 1, its registered as 4 star afterall! / voice mailbox: yes

Business centre: yes

concierge service: yes, offered by reception team, good ones, could have been better if more adequately staffed!
Parking: pubic at high cost in the garage Utoquai, Färberstrasse 6, aprox 150 meters from the hotel. They state that valet parking is available and even taking care of the car to the parking, which is misleading since there is note even a porter there for this service! You have even to carry all your luggage in the middle of the street! (see comment at the beginning)

airport shuttle service: can arrange convenient (its a bit pricey!) at usual high Swiss cost taxi

check out speed: very quick & efficient (2min), with invoice printing

Comfortable, clean and well-staffed by an outstandingly friendly group, the Steigenberger in Zurich upholds the high standards of this group. The rooms are very well thought out and big enough for a multi-day stay; the organization of the rooms is such that one can easily unpack and stretch out. The breakfast offerings are quite good as is the restaurant. Great views of the lake and on sunny days of the mountains beyond. The staff here is terrific and overcome what could be a bit of a drawback in entering a hotel thru the Audi dealer! It's my go to hotel in Zurich and i'm delighted to have found it.

Room Tip: Try to get the lake view; the corner rooms are larger than others if you need a little more room

We got a lucky break as the weather was sunny through out our stay (I was told by the locals that this is not normal). Great location as we could take a walk in the morning and evening right along the lake. Try to get a corner lake view room. Always nice to wake up and see the nice lake from your room. Bed was too soft though.

Room Tip: Corner Junior Suites. Great view of the lake.

Wonderful views of the lake from small clean functional lakefront rooms but that's about all I can say that's favourable about this hotel. No bellman so be prepared to carry your own bags.Beds incredibly hard.Hot water inexplicably not working when we checked in and no one around to sort it till the following day No coffee or tea machine,no iron no complimentary water.Staff friendly but clearly Hotel starved of resources and investment. They rely on lakefront location to justify high end prices. No way is this a four star hotel We fled first thing the following day into the comforting arms of the Marriott.

Room Tip: Lake view if you must stay here!

Dear Guest,
I am very sorry to read that your stay with us did not meet your expectations. I was not aware of the not existing hot water and I apologise for that inconvenience. Please rest assured that this was an isolated incidence.
We are currently undergoing a few changes. My goal is by the end of the year to equip all rooms with a water kettle and the suites will be equipped with a coffee machine.

I very much appreciate your feedback, which I will share with my team in order to prevent such circumstances in the future.

Kind regards from Switzerland,
