Hotel St. Josef is a very nice, quiet, small hotel. The price-quality ratio is excellent considering how expensive hotels in Zurich are. I really have nothing to complain about: clean, light room, decorated with taste, free wireless internet connection in the room, good bathroom and friendly helpful staff. The only thing that bothered me was the duvet was a bit too warm, so the nights were a bit hot. Room was quiet, not much traffic noise. There's a hospital nearby, sometimes you can be woken up by a passing ambulance, but that's normal in any city. There was a kettle, teacups, teabags, a refridgerator and a safety deposit box in the room, so all traveller's needs were met. The buffet breakfast was good, although they did not serve hot dishes like eggs and bacon. Apart from that their selection was wide.
The hotel is located conveniently: only a short walk to the lake, river, central railway station and shopping area. There are tram stops near by. The area is packed with small hotels, lovely restaurants, cafés and interesting shops.
Before travelling take some time to look at satellite photos or Google street view for a good reason. Someone already wrote in this forum that if you're going to walk to the hotel from the central railway station and you are pulling a big, heavy suitcase don't take the first stairs to reach Hirschengraben street. Continue walking Seilergraben and soon you'll find a ramp which leads right in front of the hotel.
