“Good location but dated rooms”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2013

Good location but dated rooms

The hotel is housed in a historic building with a beautiful façade and located right in the centre of town by the river, opposite the main train station.
The old town and shopping in Banhoffstrasse are a couple of minutes walk away.

The hotel restaurants with its live music seem popular with guests and the locals.

However the rooms themselves are clean but dated. They look like something out of a 70’s French movie. The quality of the bed, lighting and toiletries products provided do not feel 4 star.

Ok, to crash if you want to stay a day or two but for the money you can get better value even for Zurich from 3 star hotels in the area.

The brief stated A/C but it isn't so be aware if it's hot you will burn , great location but like everything in Switzerland way over priced even had to pay for WIFI ! Staff and facility's are fine it's the room was on first floor overlooking the river however the bed and pillows sub standard . Great if you are catching trains walk right across the bridge .

Room Tip: Just don't stay in summer no air con !

The hotel is very central to Zurich and is just over the river from the main station. The room was a bit small but had an excellent view over the city. The free wifi is very reliable and is fast too. One waiter, Patrick, was very good at breakfast as he remembered on our second morning there what hot drinks we liked and the egg dishes we wanted prepared. The air conditioning was very welcome as well during the hot summer weather.

Stayed at the Central Plaza from July 7 - 11, Rm 417. Reception staff were extremely helpful, efficient and friendly. Room was well-sized and had opening windows facing the river and the tram junction - was noisy with the windows open but practically silent when they were shut. The room was well-equipped. My only 'complaints' were that the round bed was uncomfortably soft, the bathroom is tiny (the shower over the very high bath would be very difficult for anyone with mobility difficulties); and the very expensive breakfast options (although there are many alternatives very close to the hotel). The hotel is brilliantly located opposite the HbH with a coop supermarket also opposite.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear would be quieter if the windows need to be opened.

The Central Plaza Hotel as its name suggests is in the centre of the city only a couple of hundred yards from the train station. It is an attractive looking building not far from the lively Niederdorf area with plenty of bars and restaraunts. The hotel bar has the atmosphere of a piano/cocktail bar and is busy with people meeting up.Our room 415 overlooked the Limmatt River but there were several tram stops directly outside the hotel which makes it noisy especially as the air con is not very efficient forcing you to leave windows open.On the whole a nice hotel in a very central location which I would use again.

In a very expensive city, you hold your breath when you book a hotel. But the Central Plaza was exactly what was promised -- a short walk from the Hauptbahnhof with some rooms overlooking the Limmat River, clean, modern rooms and an efficient and helpful staff. The rooms have been renovated with polished wood floors, new beds and baths. Food was fine as well. I recommend it for the location and the cleanliness.

Room Tip: Rooms on the Stampfenbachstrasse side of the hotel are quiet.

Spent $300 / night without airconditioning! Listened to the sirens and trucks outside all night. Not coming back. breakfast not included. Bar downstairs boring, but in a great location near train and fun restaurant district.
